This may be a last hour notice, but there is a free and very easy to
use logging dupe program designed just for field day. Yep, I said free. It will be in use for field day for the third or fourth year for the Holland Amateur Radio Club, K8DAA. And yes, there will be one or two K2's there. The program can be found at : http://www.qsl.net/kc8opv/squirl-fd/ One minor point, when you open and install it, look at the .ini file and modify the line for the logs for your computer. It will default to the designers slot. Change it to what you want. Very simple, just for field day, and free. A free field day logging and dupe program and a pair of K2's is what life is all about. Participated a couple of hours in a 9A operation at N4N (amazingly
organized) and then had a little "personal" FD of my own with a recently acquired K1 thanks to John (WL7M) - was KL0WN - yes, he worked as a clown with RB & BB Circus - and is a very accomplished builder! Excellent job John - tnx for making it available! N4HH 1B on 20 meter cw only. K1 running 5 watts off a gel cel to a 20 meter dipole at a staggering and sagging 15 feet. 84 Q's in abt 4 hrs including F5IN and a couple of 4X4's prior to the contest! I used the FD Logger 2005 by KC8OPV (http://www.qsl.net/kc8opv). James' program is very simple and excellent. You might want to take a look at it for next year. 73 es gud dxing -- Don N4HH K2/100/KAT100 #2028, K1 #1456, etc, etc -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. We were at Toys-R-Us today, and we found an aluminum case that could be very
useful for those wishing to transport their KX1 and accessories around. It is in the gamers section and is a case for the Nintendo DS hand held game unit (plus accessories). It's called the "Pro Gamer's Kit" and is manufactured by Intec. It's aluminum and has a carrying handle and looks just like a mini photography case, the kind photog's use. It is already compartmentalized, and the KX1 pretty much fits in the "hole" where the Nintendo DS would go. With a bit of padding in the lid to hold the KX1 solid, it should make a fine unit to carry or store the KX1. This is NOT a backpackers case. Much to big. But if you want something to store your KX1 in or carry it to and from the car, this might be it. Lots of room for accessories, antenna, keyer, etc. Matt - K7OE _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. What is the consensus on a good (or best) wire stripper for stripping the
various wires found in the Elecraft kits? Any suggestions for an automatic hand stripper for 16 to 26 gauge stranded and solid wire? Hi Matt:

Not automatic, but excellent: #30-#20 AWG http://www.hakkousa.com/CHPproducts.asp?PID=CSP-30-1&Page=1 #26-#16 AWG http://www.hakkousa.com/CHPproducts.asp?PID=CSP-30-7&Page=1 #20-#10 AWG http://www.hakkousa.com/CHPproducts.asp?PID=CSP-30-2&Page=1 May be available at a (slightly) lower price from vendors such as www.kiesub.com, but no guarantees. 73, Tom Hammond N0SS _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I'll second Tom's recommendation. I've had a set like those shown in the
links below for 20+ years now. There are other types that are "adjustable" and cheaper because one tool covers everything but they require setting something for each size of wire. Slow and not as clean and easy as the plier type, IMHO. Also, with the plier type you don't really need to know the wire size. Just pick up the ones that seem right and, with the jaws closed, put the insulated wire behind the openings. You'll quickly see which one would allow the wire through but not the insulation. That's the one to use! I just purchased a new FT-817ND, and I intend to use it with an Elecraft T1
antenna tuner. What's the best (i.e. proper) method to generate a carrier so the T1 can tune? Is there some menu combination that outputs a carrier or ? I realize that I can simply hold down the keyer, but that will produce either a series of dots and/or dashes... not a continuous tone. Suggestions for a newbie? Matt,
The T1 can be tuned with a carrier (CW, digital, AM, or FM modes), or with speech (SSB modes). It re-tunes quickly from memory once an initial match has been found on each band, so even speech-based retuning is practical. The optional T1 remote-control cable for the FT817 makes things even simpler. Once you've tuned up the T1 on all bands, a band change at the rig will recall the right tuner L/C components on each band without transmitting. Let me know if you have any other questions. 73, Wayne N6K On Sep 4, 2005, at 10:37 AM, Matt and Kelly wrote: > I just purchased a new FT-817ND, and I intend to use it with an > Elecraft T1 > antenna tuner.
