Good Afternoon once again. I do know that the footswitch is connected to the PTT In on the back of the K3. But can I still have the microphone connected in the front jack and use the footswitch to key the tranmitter and talk through the microphone? Sorry for all the dumb questions. Mark KB3Z

That is what I do. It gives me control over other things, as well.
But, it does depend on your microphone type. Some have contacts for the audio built into the PTT switch on the mic. Other mics do not have audio contacts, only a switch for PTT. Some mics do not have a PTT switch at all. If your mike has a XLR connector, I purchased a cable from Heil and it has a
female jack for the switch. I use it with my RE27. I chose to use the hand switch but I think he sells the foot switch as well. If you want one made for just what you want it for Heil has 2 modules to
choose from. I always keep a spare one of them in the shack just in case like the time a new pup chewed the cable in half just as a contest was starting. I pulled out the spare and used it till I repaired the other one. They are good quality and have a key line also if needed. 73, Fred/N0AZZ K3 Ser #'s 6730/5299--KX3 # 2573--K2/100--KAT100 P3/SVGA--KPA500--KAT500--W2 -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Phil LaMarche Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 1:05 PM To: 'Richard Fjeld'; [hidden email]; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Footswitch Connection on K3 If your mike has a XLR connector, I purchased a cable from Heil and it has a female jack for the switch. Linemaster is my favorite brand of footswitch. Generally rugged and good quality. Here are a couple sold on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Linemaster-T-91-S-Treadlite-Electrical-Momentary/dp/B002P4XREA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1363820645&sr=8-1&keywords=linemaster\ http://www.amazon.com/Linemaster-Clipper-Switch-Electrical-Momentary/dp/B002P55Y36/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1363820815&sr=8-3&keywords=linemaster The Clipper is overkill, but really nice. I have a dual-pedal model. But look for these on ebay first. You should be able to find a used Linemaster footswitches for much less than the new price. I saw several Clippers for $20 or less. As you've been told, if the mic doesn't have a PTT switch, you should be able to plug the footswitch into the rear-panel PTT jack. That's what I do. If the mic has a PTT switch, hopefully it only switches PTT and not the mic. 73, Dick WC1M > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] > Sent: Wednesday, March 20, 2013 1:30 PM > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [Elecraft] Footswitch Connection on K3 > > Good Afternoon once again.
