Future new K3 kit owner

Joe K2UF
I subscribed to this reflector to give me some support in resisting my urge
to replace my aging ft1000 field.  I thought maybe if I read some negative
remarks the urge would subside.  Using the same philosophy as when I get the
urge to replace my truck I ask people who own the model I am looking at.
Sometimes the negative feed back will help me postpone the inevitable.  I
did not get the necessary negative feedback I was looking for.  Therefore I
just hit the 'SUBMIT ORDER' button on the Elecraft order form.

You people are going to have to do a better job of supporting us people
trying to resist temptation.

Hope the new radio is ready to go for the ARRL CW contest in a few weeks.

73 All,  Joe  K2UF

Congratulations, Joe.

Why, and allow others to avoid the same fate as us?  Nope.  We just
keep greasing that slippery slope!

I found a couple of weeks was all I needed to learn the K3 well enough
to use it in anger during SS.  Perhaps I'm a quick study, but other than
tweaking some parameters and getting familiar with button placement, the
radio is quite easy to use despite being a complex device that does a
lot of functions for us.

Enjoy!

Joe, I did almost the same thing, replacing my Mk V. Of course, Yaesu is the
company people love to criticize, but the Mk V is a terrific radio and some
version of the FT1000 has probably put more hams on the Honor Roll than any
other rig.

Nonetheless, if you got used to DXing with the Field, that's just all the
more reason that you'll appreciate the K3. The things the FT1000 does well,
the K3 does even better. And the annoyances of the FT1000 are pretty much
overcome, particularly those relating to the age differences in DSP
technology.

Another bonus is the ease of interfacing with a computer. I used to use
RigBlaster, but now there is no interface at all -- just a serial cable and
two audio cables. Everything is much simpler and works better.

Anything relating to service is way better with Elecraft, too, and this
reflector and the many knowledgeable fans of the K3 are really helpful.

And you'll have a lot more desk space.

73,
Tony KT0NY
