Forgot mention additional problem; after the reset, the power will only dial up
to 12W, not the 100+ seen before. ----- Forwarded Message ---- From: Jack Berry <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: Sun, November 20, 2011 5:06:55 PM Subject: K-3 ERR TXF issue Just had the radio for a few days, it was factory assembled and is almost new but I am the second owner. It worked fine for a few days then I starting seeing this error message (ERR TXF) when using the ATU and now get it everytime I try to transmit. I checked the FIL settings for the 3 positions occupied and it seemed they were good. Finally, I reset the radio back to defaults and still no success. Any suggestions appreciated. The Owner's manual description of ERR TXF says that it means invalid crystal
filter bandwidth, The crystal filter selected for TX (with CONFIG:FLTX) is either too narrow or too wide. You must specify a filter that is 2.7 or 2.8 kHz wide for CW/DATA/SSB, 6 kHz for AM, and 13.0 kHz for FM). Using the K3 Utiltiy's crystal filter configuration dialog or K3 front panel CONFIG menus, verify that the filter selected for *transmit* is the required width for each mode. If you've set the radio back to its defaults, you may need to change the CONFIG menu for KPA3 to "PA NOR" or you're not using the KPA3, and the maximum power level would be about 12W. The factory configuration default for KPA3 is "not installed". I'd also check the CONFIG menu options for all your other installed options (KBPF3, KAT3, all crystal filters, etc) to make sure they match the options you've physically plugged into the radio. And if you've restored the rig to factory default with EE INIT, you might also want to run TX GAIN calibration again. Thanks Dick & everyone who replied. Making progress. I can now use the ATU and
XMIT without getting an error and able to get a signal out! All the cables for PC connection should arrive early this week and life will get simpler than using the front panel. ________________________________ From: Dick Dievendorff <[hidden email]> To: Jack Berry <[hidden email]>; [hidden email] Sent: Sun, November 20, 2011 5:27:45 PM Subject: RE: [Elecraft] Fw: K-3 ERR TXF issue The Owner's manual description of ERR TXF says that it means invalid crystal filter bandwidth, The crystal filter selected for TX (with CONFIG:FLTX) is either too narrow or too wide.
