Re: Fwd: Am I missing something?

Should I glean from this statement:
"Use Internet Explorer (not another browser that may not use Wininet)"
that IE is the recommended browser to use when updating K3 F/W?

Dick, et al:

Tnx for the info, COPYING NEW FILES did the job, now running   4.51 ,
1.15, 2.76(1) and 2.76(2),   and will refresh the Elecraft Web site...much
appreciated. This reflector is amazing for getting answers to questions.
Love my  K3, KPA500, P3 and W2.

Paul

No, the recommendation is to use the K3 Utility for production firmware, no browser is normally required. If you're accessing beta firmware, any browser or FTP client is fine.

Microsoft provides FTP client functionality, incorporated in WININET.dll, that both the K3 Uility and Internet Explorer use. I don't know what other browsers use. I have nothing against other browsers, I use them myself.

The Wininet core is available on every Windows system, part of the Windows programming interface commonly used, which makes it the preferable FTP client library.

If the Wininet cache is stale (older views of the data are cached locally) the stale data needs to be discarded so that it is fetched again from Elecraft,s FTP server.  One way is to discard the entire cache with the Control Panel Internet applet. Another way is to use IE to browse to the FTP site and refresh that one page.

But I think Paul's issue was a need to select the Copy New Files From Elecraft button on the K3 Utility Firmware page.
