We habe been trying to use HRD with the K3 but the program shuts down after some seconds. I use Windows Vista. The K3 is connected to the program in the beginning(I can read the K3´s frequency), but then stops working(blue screen). We believe that the USB to serial cable is causing troubles, but on the other hand I can run the K3 utility without any problem with the same cable and drivers.

Make sure you use a FTDI Serial Cable that has a real RS-232 Port built in http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/USB-Serial.htm When I bought this cable all my Serial port nightmares ended in Linux, BSD, MAC OS X and Windows 32 OS systems. In Windows Vista make sure that you set up the program to run in a windows XP compatibility mode and also make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of HRD. Contact the author of HRD if problems continue. Here is Simon´s answer to my problem. Does anybody know where to get prolific drivers which will work with Ham Radio Deluxe? 73, Chris-OE5CSP Hi, If you get a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) then it's the driver for the Prolific cable which must be updated, only drivers can cause a BSOD and with VISTA there are new / special drivers. 73 Simon Brown, HB9DRV |

I could not find drivers which would work with windows Vista and my USB/serial cable, but a ham, who had read about my problem here on the reflector gave me a call on the phone and said, that he knew what I need.(and I also got some useful e-mails) Two days later a brand new USB/serial cable arrived. This friendly operator dind´t even want money for it-he said the magic word"hamspirit". Thanks Hermann!!! Now HRD is working!! 73, Chris-OE5CSP |
