I am running Ubuntu on two machines, and it is rock solid. My main
machine never has an issue, and always works, and I beat it up daily... My wife's laptop is the same, no issues in several years of operation. 73, and thanks, Dave (NK7Z) https://www.nk7z.net ARRL Technical Specialist ARRL Volunteer Examiner ARRL Asst. Not Ubuntu, but its parent Debian. Right now Debian 10 (Buster) is
quite stable and nearly boring to a fault! 73, Nate, N0NB -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. The pessimist fears this is true." Yes I have been using Ubuntu for years. I used to have probllems with it
Every once in awhile something would break after an update. But since I upgraded to version 16.04 LTS (Long Term Support version introduced in 2016) it has been stable. At first I just used it for email and surfing the Internet - all my iimportant software was on a separate Windows computer. As time goes by there are more and ore applications available for Linux and now I even run some sophisticated engineering software on that computer. The main problem I have had is that installing drivers can be a pain I bought a certain printer model specifically because they claimed they had a driver for Linux Turned out yes they had a driver but it didn't work. (I should have Googled it before I bought it to find that out.) I had to use the printer on a Windows machine instead. I use Mint - it is wonderful. Keep it completely updated for about 20
seconds a week - and never requires a reboot. Too bad more software is not available for Linux. Thanks so much for the numerous responses. A month ago a bought a 13" Dell
with "factory loaded" UBUNTU and have been very pleased with its performance. I'm very new to UBUNTU but have run Puppy in the past and have been very pleased with it. Two more questions if I may... Is UBUNTU compatible with the Elecraft maintenance software? And, any thoughts about CQRLOG logging program? Thanks & 73... Is UBUNTU compatible with the Elecraft > maintenance software? Yes, with a caveat. If your Ubuntu installation is 64 bit, a.k.a. amd64, then some additional legwork is required to get the 32 bit utilities running. I have documented that process here: https://www.n0nb.us/blog/2016/07/running-electraft-utilities-on-linux-amd64-and-multiarch/ Some of the particulars may be outdated, but as I recall the packages were still current for Debian 10, a.k.a. Buster. > And, any thoughts about CQRLOG logging program? I have been using it for years. It integrates well with Fldigi, WSJT-X, eQSL, and Trusted QSL. However, the current released version does have a problem with wsjtx. I have documented that in this Debian bug report: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=932776 which references this thread in the CQRlog forum: https://www.cqrlog.com/node/2061 HTH, 73, Nate, N0NB -- "The optimist proclaims that we live in the best of all possible worlds. Steve and all,
I used cqrlog for a couple years and it's impressive. For sake of simplicity, however, I went back to the trio of xlog & xdx with hamlib support. I made a minor modification xdx so that when I select a new (for me) dx, I can then paste the call into xlog. As to Elecraft software, no, it is not compatible with modern versions of linux without some effort. For some odd reason, Elecraft only makes 32-bit binaries available. You can load those libraries onto Ubuntu, but it's a lot of bloat. I chose to use unofficial 64-bit versions which work fine so far. 73, Mike ab3ap On 8/1/19 5:15 PM, Steve Boles wrote: > Thanks so much for the numerous responses.
