Newbie question -
I dont want to take the chance to fry something. I want to start using the Heil Proset-K2 I ordered with the K3 - but a bit unsure of exactly how to set it up. THe instructions that came with it are mostly for installing the necessary kit into the K2. I searched thr reflector for the setting to use and came up with opposing views... the majority stated if using the front panel use the following: Use the adapter supplied and plug in both connectors and then into the k3 front panel, FP Low - with bias on, Vox On, VOx gain = 50, antivox=00 To use the rear panel - do not use the adapter " and plug the connectors into the repar panel jacks - well - exactly which ones? The only two that the large one will fit is the paddle and the key. Apprecaite your help folks, Dale K7DNH |

I don't think you'll be able to fry anything unless you get really obscure :) See also: http://www.elecraft.com/manual/E740063_ProSet-K2K3_Rev_C.pdf if that's not what you have on paper. > I searched thr reflector for the setting to use and came up with opposing > views... the majority stated if using the front panel use the following: > Use the adapter supplied and plug in both connectors and then into the k3 > front panel, FP Low - with bias on, Vox On, VOx gain = 50, antivox=00 OK... try that, and it you're not getting enough drive, try the "High" setting instead. > To use the rear panel - do not use the adapter " and plug the connectors > into the repar panel jacks - well - exactly which ones? The only two that > the large one will fit is the paddle and the key. It would need to be plugged into the "Phones" output (as well as the "Mic" input, but that's a 1/8" jack and it looks like the headset is delivered with a 1/4" plug. That's unfortunate. You can buy an adapter for that, but I wouldn't recommend it, mechanically. Try it in the front with the adapter, and see how it works first. If you decide you want to connect to the back (it's neater, if you're going to have the headset connected all the time), perhaps you could make up a pigtail adapter, or whack that 1/4" plug off and replace it with a 1/8" one (possibly voiding your warranty). Hi Dale:
I also ordered the Proset with my K3 and it arrived with the proper connectors to plug it into the front or rear. The headphone portion of the cable has a stereo 1/8" plug with a 1/8" to 1/4" adapter. The microphone portion of the cable has a mono 1/8" plug with an adapter cable that converts it to the round front panel microphone connector and also provides a means to plug in a footswitch. I presently have both the microphone and headphone cables plugged into the rear MIC and PHONES sockets. I am not using either adapter. If your Proset didn't arrive with these connectors and adapters you should contact Elecraft so that they can investigate. Maybe Heil sent them some Prosets with an incorrect plug arrangement. I'm sure Elecraft contracted with Heil to provide the Proset with an arrangement that would work both front and rear. 73, Mike K2MK Dale Harding K7DNH Fri, 26 Jun 2009 19:16:08 -0700 Newbie question - I dont want to take the chance to fry something. Hi Dale:
That 1/4" plug on the headphone cable that you are looking at might in fact be the adapter. Gently pull it apart. You might be pleasantly surprised. It's not visually obvious that it is a two part affair. My Proset came with an instruction sheet that is titled: Proset-K2 Assembly and Operating Instructions (Revision B, April 9, 2006) There is a note under the Headphone Plug Installation Paragraph: "......The remaining 1/4 inch stereo plug pulls apart revealing a standard 1/8 inch stereo plug..........." 73, Mike K2MK Dale Harding K7DNH Sun, 28 Jun 2009 19:44:03 -0700 interesting - mine came with a 1/4" stereo plug - and the 1/8 mic plug - there is an adapter that came with it to plug the 1/8 mic into and it then goes into the multipin front panel mic connection and of course the 1/4 stereo plug goes into the front phone jack - but I cant use it on the rear panel as there is no 1/4 to 1/8 stereo adapter... I will email support and ask them about it - thanks dale ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

This is true.
I am looking at the connectors on my Proset-K2 and it has an 1/8" stereo connector for headphones and an 1/8" mono connector for the mic. I have no idea where the 1/8" to 1/4" headphone adapter went, don't really need it. The "interface cable" converts the 1/8" mono mic connector to an 8 pin foster. There is an 1/8" headphones connector and a PTT/foot switch connector (1/4" female) as well.
