Hello Group,
It is off-topic. When I plan my itinerary from Dayton back to Hong Kong, I need to change my flight in New York. I have not been New York before and would like to take this chance to have some sight seeing. If I only have two full days in New York city, what will be your suggestion for a tourist like me? Any suggested accommodation (budget hotel with convenience location)? cheers, Johnny VR2XMC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Johnny, if the weather is nice, you get to see a lot by taking the Circle
Line boat tour around Manhattan. A great (long) walking tour would be to go through Times Sq, starting maybe at Broadway & 52, walking downtown to 42. Then continue down to 34th st and go west to get to the stairway to the High Line, an elevated parkway walking route that takes you down to the West Village. From there, walk down the west side to the World Trade Center site to see the construction and re-growth. Thence down to Wall Street, ending at Bowling Green Park. By then you'll be exhausted but you'll have had a great day. For info see: http://www.thehighline.org/about/park-information <http://www.thehighline.org/about/park-information> http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises.aspx <http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises.aspx> http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf <http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf>Whatever you do in NYC, you'll have fun. Another great walking tour starting in mid-town is to go South mainly along
Broadway through Soho and down to the City Hall area. Lots of good shopping, snacking, browsing and people-watching opportunities along the way. Then walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and back. Return via Little Italy for a great lunch. Speaking of food, don't miss the Carnegie Deli. And I'd recommend a Broadway show one evening. You can get discount tickets at the TKTS booth near Times Square. 73 Craig AC0DS ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Ditto on the boat tour! A great way to see Manhattan from the
outside-in! Be sure and keep your head down when the boat rounds the northern end of The Island. matt W6NIA On Sun, 20 Feb 2011 08:49:56 -0600, you wrote: >Johnny, if the weather is nice, you get to see a lot by taking the Circle >Line boat tour around Manhattan. > >A great (long) walking tour would be to go through Times Sq, starting maybe >at Broadway & 52, walking downtown to 42. It's not the most convenient location, but I liked the Jane Hotel, which
wasn't expensive. And if you're willing to share, the Hosteling International facilities are perfectly adequate: http://www.thejanenyc.com/#/home http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels-HI---New-York-City-060003.en.htm 73, doug On 20-Feb-11 10:26, Fred Jensen wrote: > On 2/20/2011 6:15 AM, Johnny Siu wrote: > >> Any suggested accommodation (budget hotel with convenience >> location)? > > "budget" anything and "NYC" in the same sentence is an oxymoron, Johnny > :-) Hope your trip is great! > > 73, > > Fred K6DGW > - Northern California Contest Club > - CU in the 2011 Cal QSO Party 1-2 Oct 2011 > - www.cqp.org > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Johnny,
For what you pay for a Heil headset the audio quality is lacking somewhat. Yamaha CM500 is a lot less expensive and gives superb audio quality. As do other headsets IMHO YMMV 73's Gary On Sun, Feb 20, 2011 at 11:56 PM, ka9zap <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Johnny > Kenwood should work I use a standard Kenwood hand mic the MC-43S the > sound is fantastic. > > Regards > Art > ka9zap > > > > On 2/20/2011 7:30 AM, Johnny Siu wrote: >> Hello Group, >> >> I have a heil sound PR780 and a Traveler dual side. Hello Mike,
Just woke up this morning and found so many responses both on-the-list and off-the-list. May I take this chance to thank all the responses to me on this topic and I shall reply them individually off-the-list. Naturally, I apologise my QRM on this reflector. However, I find this group the most valuable and consists of all sort of expertise and knowledge. cheers, Johnny VR2XMC ________________________________ 寄件人﹕ Mike Harris <[hidden email]> 收件人﹕ [hidden email]; Elecraft Reflector <[hidden email]> 傳送日期﹕ 2011/2/21 (一) 3:41:19 AM 主題: Re: [Elecraft] OT: Tourist information - New York City G'day, Might I respectfully suggest this topic goes off list. I've visited NYC roughly every other year for the last 40 years, and
sometimes more than that, each time spending a week or so, mostly for annual meetings of the Audio Engineering Society. I strongly agree with the advice noted below -- use the subways and do a lot of walking. Also, buy a Zagat restaurant guide at any NY bookstore -- NY is a city with lots of good food. As an Asian visitor, I'd concentrate on those cuisines that are sort of native to NYC -- traditional Jewish delis and Italian neighborhood places. There are also some very nice places (and even street vendors) with variousMiddle Eastern cuisines. NYC is the jazz capitol of the world, with the most great musicians playing live in small clubs around the city. The quality and energy level of the playing tends to be significantly greater than the same musicians playing on the road in a different city. To find listings of who's playing where, check out the Village Voice newspaper and the New Yorker magazine. There are also lots of listings online. When you go to hear jazz, you're likely to be returning to your hotel late at night. My rule is to take the subway TO the club, but take a cab back to the hotel. NYC is also one of the great world centers for Theatre and Dance, but it isn't cheap. 73, Jim K9YC On 2/20/2011 6:49 AM, Tony Estep wrote: > For info see: > http://www.thehighline.org/about/park-information > <http://www.thehighline.org/about/park-information> > http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises.aspx > <http://www.circleline42.com/new-york-cruises.aspx> > http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf > > <http://www.mta.info/nyct/maps/subwaymap.pdf>Whatever you do in NYC, you'll > have fun.
