Help! None of the front panel controls are working

Koert Wilmink
Dear all,

I just finished the front panel, control board and the beginning of the RF
board. I'm ready for my first test. The display is working fine, but non of
the frontpanel controls are working. Volatge is ok and I did check the
soldering. Please can somebody help me to determine the problem?
Thanks!
73 Koert

Hi Koert,

Maybe you could check the circuitry around U2 on the frontpanel board and
see if you get 5V at pin 16.  Also you could check if the pushbuttons do
react by measuring the voltages on the pushbuttons towards the U2
(3,4,5,6,11,12,13,14). Voltage is multiplexed by the bank1 and bank0 signals
so don't know if you can determine something without oscilloscope and only
DVM :-)

Gl,

Koert,

Check all components to be certain they are inserted with the correct
orientation.  Not only the ICs and diodes have a direction but the R-PAKs on
the front panel board are not reversible, pln 1 os on the left if you are
looking at the side with the label.

There is a DC voltage table in the back of the manual that may be helpful,
but the pushbuttons and 3 of the controls are multiplexed groups which makes
analysis by only DC voltage readings difficult.

You should also check all the soldering at all connectors on the Control
board and RF Board too.  The signals from the microprocessor folw from the
control board through the RF Board and then to the Front Panel.

Look carefully, your most likely problem is a bad solder connection or an
incorrectly placed component.
