Hi, I have been considering for some time about buying a K3; however, given the limited space and antenna constraints (have a simple 20M dipole about 30 feet up) at our home in Palo Alto, I am not sure if I can put together a decent set up worthy of week signal CW DXing or contesting. I am wondering if anybody might be willing to show me their K3 setup or even help me try it out in my location just to get a good feel for the performance? Thanks in advance! Jay -
I have a K3/10 and operate at about 10 watts all of the time. I use an 10-40 meter inverted vee up about 30 feet from my QTH here in Salinas. I have had many SSB contacts with this set up on all bands, but mostly on 10, 20, and 15 meters. The only problemI have had with DX is getting through the pileups with only 10 watts, but persistence has paid off in many cases. I would go the K3 route again if I did not have one already. 73 de Dave KJ6CBS ________________________________ From: Jay Krishna <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: Friday, November 16, 2012 2:31 PM Subject: [Elecraft] Help with K3 Evaluation in Palo Alto Hi, I have been considering for some time about buying a K3; however, given the limited space and antenna constraints (have a simple 20M dipole about 30 feet up) at our home in Palo Alto, I am not sure if I can put together a decent set up worthy of week signal CW DXing or contesting. Jay,
Why "shoot yourself in the foot" twice? If you must have compromise antennas, that is one shot, and perhaps that is unavoidable. I ask why you would use a compromise transceiver with a compromise antenna. The K3 will perform better than that compromise transceiver even with a compromise antenna. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/16/2012 5:31 PM, Jay Krishna wrote: > Hi, > > I have been considering for some time about buying a K3; however, given the limited space and antenna constraints (have a simple 20M dipole about 30 feet up) at our home in Palo Alto, I am not sure if I can put together a decent set up worthy of week signal CW DXing or contesting. Good Morning Ralph.
I hope all is well with you. I've tried to reach you a number of times since Sunday morning, and am getting no response. I've included the Elecraft reflector in hopes that you get this message - if you havent gotten the other reply's and messages I've sent. I have several other hams interested in the K3 so unless I hear something by noon mountain time, I'll go ahead and contact those others who have expressed an interest in the K3. Please contact me if you would like to complete the purchase, Thanks Niel WA7SSA > Neil I am wishing to buy your k3 package. Assuming no > One has spoken for it yet. < snip >. > > > > Ralph T.
