I have built 2 K3s. I have had to take more pieces apart on some complex radios
to fix them than there is in a K3 kit!!

Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Home brew, kits, etc.
For all the youngsters out there, we used to have this conversation ad
nauseum on the Ham bands back in the 1950's when "Appliance Operators" were
sneered at - no matter that their rigs were Collins, Hallicrafters,
National, etc., that usually worked much better than our home brew
creations.
There was a lot of disagreement about whether a "kit" was "homebrewing" -
E.F. Johnson, Heath, WRL and others were cranking out new kits almost
monthly.
There was even sentiment in some corners that it should be *illegal* for any
company to sell kits, much less finished rigs to the Ham market.
Some things never change, Hi!
