Honoring Tom, N0SS

k0wa@swbell.net

To honor Tom Hammond, N0SS...I would like to proposed that in the up-coming NAQP
SSB contest....those people who want to honor Tom give their name as "TOM"

In our day and age it seems that Common Sense is in short supply.  If you don't
have any Common Sense - get some Common Sense and use it.  If you can't find any
Common Sense, ask for help from somebody who has some Common Sense.  Is Common
Sense divine?

Common Sense is the image of the Creator expressing revealed truth in my mind.

Also consider that Tom was an avid CW man and that same weekend there will
be the inaugural CW OPEN contests (from 1200Z-1600Z; 2000Z-2400Z, and
0400-0800Z - see www.cwops.org/cwopen.html). In these contests, the
exchange is "serial number and name" so you can honor Tom by participating
in CW OPEN and use "Tom" as your name in the exchange.

Re: Honoring Tom, N0SS SSB vs CW

Some have mentioned that Tom was a CW op rather than a SSB op.  Granted that is
true....but if I had thought about this last weekend for NAQP-CW, I would have
mentioned it earlier.  I did not.  Therefore.....

Tom was a "Amateur Radio Operator."  I think that SSB or CW makes little
difference.  I think honoring Tom as an great Amateur Radio Operator is more
paramount than what mode should be used.

Please in the up-coming NAQP-SSB contest honor Tom Hammond....and....from time
to time explain why to those who ask.  This has been done before in honor of
other "great" ops.

I remember working him in many phone contests with his old call, K0RPH,
using the phonetics K0 Rolly Polly Ham.

In my earlier post I did not mean to imply that it was an either/or
situation. There are phone ops who never do CW, and vice-versa. There are
ops who do both. The CW OPEN conflicts only for a few hours with NAQP SSB.
There's no reason why some ops won't participate in both. It will be
fitting to have Tom honored in both contests since both have "name" as
part of the exchange.

Now you've done it! I'll just up my prefill file with 'Tom' in every name field!
