How does fskd work on the k3?

tomb18
Hi
I am used to sound card based ratty where the software just sends the sound to the radio via line in.
In the case of fskd and a program supporting fskd, what exactly is being sent to the radio? Can you use the k3 without software in this case?
Thanks
Thanks

Thanks Rick.  I was unaware of the keying of the k3 via the acc pin.
I'm using mmtty with a microham and all of a sudden I was only getting a couple of characters at a time.  Didn't want to mention the microham at this point.  But I bet there's a good chance the acc cable is loose!  I just installed it all yesterday and did lots of connections.
Thanks

You can FSkey the K3 via the ACC jack pin 1. The keying is simply on/off and the K3 generates the shift. I don't know what you mean by "use the k3 without software." You still need software to generate the FSK on/off keying signal. You tell your RTTY software (MMTTY or a logger program, for examples) to use FSK instead of AFSK. Usually they key the rig through a COM port which you must select and connect to ACC Pin 1 through a level converter. Details in the manuals.

Tom,

If you are using MMTTY for FSK with a USB-based device, then in the
MMTTY setup under the Misc tab where you select COM-TxD(FSK) for FSK
keying, you must also click on the "USB Port" button and select option
C. Limiting Speed. If you don't do this, MMTTY will release PTT as soon
as the computer has finished sending the data to the device at USB
speeds, which happens long before the radio has finished sending the
data at RTTY speed.
