Hi Gang,
I recently bought a used K3 which has filters installed in both the main and sub receivers. Is there an external way of determining if these filters are 5-pole or 8-pole? Is the value of FLx FRQ for each filter a clue? Thanks for your assistance! * 73 de Mike, K6MKF * ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

> Is the value of FLx FRQ for each filter a clue? Yes, if FLx FRQ is 0.00, the filter is probably an 8 pole. The 5 pole filters generally have some offset. 73, ... Mike,
The K3 Utility configuration tab can tell you which filters are installed. You can tell from the filter width whether it is an 8 pole or a 5 pole - compare the installed widths with the filter listing on the Elecraft order page (that page specifies 5 pole and 8 pole). 73, Don W3FPR On 6/21/2013 3:53 PM, Mike Flowers wrote: > Hi Gang, > > I recently bought a used K3 which has filters installed in both the main > and sub receivers. > > Is there an external way of determining if these filters are 5-pole or > 8-pole? > > Is the value of FLx FRQ for each filter a clue? > > Thanks for your assistance! > * > > 73 de Mike, K6MKF > * > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Not a 100% safe way to tell so. A lot of OPs (myself included) let their
filters switch in earlier already. I.e. my 400 Hz 8 pole filter is switched in at 500 Hz DSP bandwidth (exactly that is reflected in the filter setup in K3 Utility) already so with Don's suggestion you would think it's a 5 pole filter - not true. The most reliable way is certainly the checking the filters themselves, i.e. hardware. Offset settings *might* be another way as 8 pole filters normally do not have an offset while 5 poles have. But even that might not be 100% ... so take a look at the hardware and be sure what you have. ;-) 73, Olli - DH8BQA ----- Original Message ----- From: "Don Wilhelm" <[hidden email]> To: "Mike Flowers" <[hidden email]> Cc: <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, June 21, 2013 10:50 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] How to determine K3 filter type - 5-pole or 8-pole > Mike, > > The K3 Utility configuration tab can tell you which filters are installed. > You can tell from the filter width whether it is an 8 pole or a 5 pole - > compare the installed widths with the filter listing on the Elecraft order > page (that page specifies 5 pole and 8 pole). > > 73, > Don W3FPR > > On 6/21/2013 3:53 PM, Mike Flowers wrote: >> Hi Gang, >> >> I recently bought a used K3 which has filters installed in both the main >> and sub receivers. >> >> Is there an external way of determining if these filters are 5-pole or >> 8-pole? >> >> Is the value of FLx FRQ for each filter a clue? >> >> Thanks for your assistance! >> * >> >> 73 de Mike, K6MKF >> * >> ______________________________________________________________ >> Elecraft mailing list >> Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft >> Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >> Post: mailto:[hidden email] >> >> This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >> Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html >> > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > > ----- > E-Mail ist virenfrei. > Von AVG uberpruft - www.avg.de > Version: 2013.0.3345 / Virendatenbank: 3199/6429 - Ausgabedatum: > 21.06.2013 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
