Indoor antenna for KX1...

Steve Banks
Hi everyone,

Several months ago, I recall a post from someone on the list - possibly from Wayne himself - describing an indoor antenna he used at home with his KX1.  I believe he had its two wires and feedline taped to the walls in a bedroom.

I think he listed the dimensions of both the main element and the counterpoise (sort of an off-center-fed-dipole arrangement), which worked pretty well with the KX1 tuner and an appropriate BNC/banana plug adapter.   If memory serves me, I think he used  it on 20m, possibly other bands too.

Does anyone recall the post's details, or have a similar indoor antenna they are using?  If so, a description of your antenna's dimensions would be appreciated.

Thanks and 73,

Steve ßanks

Hi Steve,

Yup, that was me. I used #26 enamel wire to form a complete loop around
the ceiling molding. The best configuration was with the loop shorted
and a single wire running down the corner of the room to the radio.
You'll also need a ground counterpoise wire -- I used about 16' of wire
laid around the edge of the walls, at the baseboard. Everything is held
in place with push-pins, which I color-matched to the paint in the
room.

No coax needed to the rig. Just load it up and go. I've worked all over
the world on 40 and 20 m with it, running 1 to 2 watts and internal
batteries.

Despite the nearly invisible wire and camouflaged hardware, my wife
discovered the installation within seconds. But she let me keep it  :)

I tried this, holding the wire up with clear pushpins..  The wire fell
down and my wife walked into it.  She accused me of trying to strangle
her.  Don't make my mistake....make sure it doesn't come down
accidently.

Am I guessing correctly that a similar arrangement would work with the K2?

What were the room dimensions, or are they not that critical?

thanks

Yes. Actually better, since the KAT2 has a wider matching range than
the KXAT1.

Around 12 x 12, but not critical.
