Hi I was wondering if anyone else has this issue:
I have the KX3 and the KXPA100 connected through the wiring kit and I am connecting to the combo with Ham Radio Deluxe or Win4K3Suite. If I go to 17m, and the software is running I can literally hear the serial commands in my headphones. It sounds like tons of clicks, and chirping noises on 17M only. I also hear it on 12m but much quieter. It also shows up on the s-meter as an s-5 pulsing. If I turn off the KXPA100, the noise goes away. I have tried a different serial port cable connected to a different port and there is no difference. It is definitely coming from the KXPA100. I never had this before I installed the amp. Can anyone here confirm to me if this is just my setup or are other experiencing the same issues? Thanks, Tom va2fsq ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Sounds like you're missing a bypass capacitor on the serial I/O line. If you email customer support, they'll send you instructions on how to fix this. (Affects a small number of units.)

Hi,
OK great. Also for the group, on my kx3 now that I have it connected to my real antennas, I can hear an am broadcast on every band. On certain bands it's tuned in perfectly to a station whereas on others You can hear the distorted bass. This is with my antenna in the attic. On the mini beam, it's gone. Any ideas why the attic antenna is doing this? Any ideas why the attic antenna is doing this? Tom, You may have a high-power AM broadcast station close by, or in the favored path of your antenna. I suppose your house wiring and/or gutters could be forming a high-gain NVIS antenna on some band…. In any case, try setting MENU:RX SHFT to 8.0 on any affected band, and/or reduce preamp gain on affected bands from 20 dB to 10 dB using MENU:PREAMP. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi
The gain is definitely the fix. That plus the attic. Thanks. -------- Original message -------- From: Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> Date: 08/02/2014 19:57 (GMT-05:00) To: Tom <[hidden email]> Cc: Elecraft <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Issue with the KX3, KXPA100 and software on 17m...can "hear" the serial commands On Feb 8, 2014, at 4:53 PM, Tom <[hidden email]> wrote: > I can hear an am broadcast on every band. Are you using a RS232 cable or a USB to serial cable?

It's the USB to serial.
But like Wayne mentioned there's a fix.
