Hello Don,
You can download it for free here: http://www.physics.princeton.edu/pulsar/K1JT/wsjt.html You can find people on HF to practice with here: http://www.chris.org/cgi-bin/jt65talk Because it is 10 to 15 dB more sensitive than CW, JT65A is the standard mode for 6m EME. If you want to set it up for maximum sensitivity for EME, a checklist of tips is here: http://www.bigskyspaces.com/w7gj/JT65.pdf You can find 6m EME partners during the optimum days of the month for 6m EME here: http://www.on4kst.org/chat/login.php?band=5 The K3 is GREAT for JT65A because many stations can be decoded in the wide, flat passband when the filters are opened up all the way. You can use the narrow audio filter ("FREEZE" filter) to select individual stations in the passband. For HF use I would recommend the JT65-HF program by Joe Large over the WSJT by K1JT. Same mode, different and much easier user interface.

Dear Group
Thanks for all the help to get me started. I now have the JT65-HF up and running and connected to HRD. All I needed was a little direction, now I have to make the plunge. The next question is will 15 watts be ok or to much power. I would like to be at the lowest power that the KPA100 puts out as this should be the lowest stress on the K3. Thanks Don KD8NNU ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I'm sure the K3 would be happy to run 100W if you wanted to. It's rated to handle full power key down for 10 minutes and a transmit cycle is only 50 seconds or so. But most people using JT65A on HF seem to run between 20 and 40W. Others prefer to run QRP and so limit themselves to 5W. By the way, if you haven't picked up on this already, do make sure your computer clock is accurate to within a second. The Windows built-in time sync usually isn't good enough. The best software to use for this is NTP for Windows which you can get here: http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm .

I hope this is not totally OT, but I just finished sending an email to K5DNL in EM15lj telling him I could hear him in EM12jq (300km) on my K3 with my M2 18XXX at 48 feet. My k3 has the K144XV in it and I was using the preamp in a TE Systems 1452G Brick. My point is that JT65 can be heard on TROPO 300km from an EME station that was running 350w to a 4 X 17 element yagi array not pointed at me, but at the moon. Needless to say, I love my K3.
