K-3 RIT readout

Art Suberbielle
Hi,

What's the chance of adding the RIT or XIT readout on the display in small
numbers next to the RIT or XIT oval?

Although you can see the amount of offset change as you rotate the knob, it
would be helpful to have the amount of offset visible to the operator at
all  times.

73,

Art KZ5D

I agree. I seldom use vfo B. I don't want my rit offset to disappear like
this.

As a mostly CW operator, I never use RIT or XIT.

When calling CQ I set the B VFO to TX and call CQ in split.  When A
station calls me off frequency I simply tune him in with the A VFO.  If
he drifts, I follow him with the A VFO.

When answering a CQ I tune the other station in with the A VFO, double
tap the A>B button to set the B VFO to the frequency and mode of the A
VFO, go to split, TXing on the B VFO.

When in a net, I tune the  NCS on A, double tap A>B, go to split and
when one of the other stations is not on freq I tune them in with the A VFO.

These procedures were learned in the day when I had separate TX and RX
rigs and they still work very well today.

If you have not tried these things, you should.  These things are fun,
and fun is good.

Re: K-3 RIT readout

In reply to this post by N5GE
Good grief! That reminds me of the old Omni V which had no RIT. TenTec used
the same logic and it only lasted through one model number.....The main pain
about this is when you tune off and forget to double tap then call CQ half a
band away. Yes I had separate tx and rx back in the old days but even that
was easier than all this button tapping.
ZUT CW Forever etc. tap tap tap tap! The key, not the buttons!

Zero chance without re-designed LCD hardware.

I suppose they could implement an menu option to make the RIT offset
"sticky" and the VFO-B readout temporary (i.e., after the VFO B knob
is moved the display would show the vfo b freq for a few seconds;
otherwise the RIT offset, if any, would be displayed). That sounds
like what you would want.

G'day,

Unless I'm missing something, if you don't want to use VFO B you
can tap DISP and select the third option, the one after the date,
you get a permanent display of the RIT/XIT offset.

And the same for the CW speed. Every time I'm going to call somebody, I
touch the knob only to see  if my speed match his speed.

The LCD cannot be changed.  But if you are not using the VFO B
information you can tap DISP for the alternate display and adjust it
so that it shows the RIT offset all the time.

This is also little bit about possibility to LOCK knob "VFO B" to
avoid switvhing display by unwanted touching of this one.
(speking about locking of knob function switching not abot VFO frq).

I agree 100%.  I never use RIT.  Why would I want to use that dinky little RIT knob when I can use the big fat Main VFO A knob (as you described using Split)?  PIEXX made a nice addition to their TS-930S digital interface mod which I believe is now on Elecraft's (aka Wayne's) list.

"RIT tuning by main tuning knob when D. LOCK pressed. Selectable tuning rates."

D. LOCK in TS-930S jargon is "DIAL LOCK".  So when you press D. LOCK, the TX frequency is locked but the RX frequency can still be changed by turning the Main VFO.  IMHO this will be a nice addition when Wayne gets around to it.

I did have to use the K3's RIT to do Diversity Split in an early release but that problem has since been solved now that Diversity Split is implemented.  What a joy not to touch that dinky RIT knob any longer!

Re: K-3 RIT readout

Brett Howard
Although the dinky knob can be configured as a fast QSY which works a
lot like the m.ch knob on my kenwood did.
