K-3: RTTY Dual Passband Question

RLVZ
Question: If you don't normally use Dual Passband while in RTTY Mode,  then
is it true that you need to be careful where the "SHIFT"  control is set?
I am new to RTTY and in last weekends NA-RTTY Test I  was NOT using Dual
Passband, and I was often off-frequency when  changing bands as my SHIFT
setting was often different for each  band.  I believe if I had been using "Dual
Passband" that I would  have been on frequency as that disables the SHIFT
control.  Question:  if your not using DUAL PASSBAND then what is the proper
setting for SHIFT?   Perhaps centering the SHIFT in the middle of the K-3's on
screen display?
Or is it true that if NET is On in MMTTY then it will put the  transmitter
on the receiver frequency even if SHIFT is not centered?

Thanks for your thoughts!

Normally I dont need the DPB. But when in RUN-CQ mode with QRM in the  last
NAQP I was very happy to have it.

Re: K-3: RTTY Dual Passband Question

Claude Du Berger
Hello Dick.
Some will prefer to use Dual-PB all the time, in RUN-CQ
and some in S&P. It's a choice.

I am new with the K3 but found a little difficult to tune rapidly
a station in S&P using the DPB. It is so sharp. Maybe with
practice it would be ok.
So I decided to use it only when I was inf RUN-CQ mode with the
DSP filter at 300Hz. I had the clarifier ON if need and resetted
via my CQ macro.

In RTTY my SHIFT is always centered.
If you had problems with off-freq. it probably came from
using AFC and NET on MMTTY. Here I have them OFF all the time.

I will be still experimenting that in the BARTG contest.
One thing for sure, I could feel the improment using a K3 in RTTY.

Yes, you need to set SHIFT such that the MMTTY FFT display is
symmetrical about the mark and space frequencies (the vertical
yellow lines on the FFT display). Set WIDTH as low as possible
without attenuating the mark and space frequencies. Set K3 shift
control to fine granularity (config/pb ctrl/shift=.01)

In MMTTY, turn off NET, AFC, ATC. Make sure MMTTY MARK frequency
matches K3 PITCH.
