K2 External Speaker

Don Baucom
Any suggestions on a external speaker? I like the homebrew one that matches the K2, but I would not be able to pull that off.

Hi Don,  Before you go to external spkr, try a speaker deflector on the top of the K2.  A 2" PVC street elbow (female to female) works very well, especially for cw side tone.  It makes a big difference to have the sound directed at your head rather than straight up in the air.
If you like how it works, you can spray it gray for a closer color match.

Don,
This has been a frequent request for the K2.  The K2 internal speaker
is just fine for a quiet room, but is lacking if the operator has
hearing loss or the location is other than a "quiet room".

I would suggest building an external amplified speaker.  OTOH, you may
find a set of computer speakers that will do the job as well.
Unfortunately, many computer amplified speakers are not well shielded
and will "do funny things" in the presence of RF Fields.

Hello:
The best speaker I found for my K2 in the shack is the Heathkit HS-1661 that goes with DX-60 and many of the other Heathkit radios. Somehow, over the years others have found it quite suitable for service other than Heathkit radios.  Nice full bodied sound and tone.
