Sam - Could this be because you are using an RS232 cable?  Bear in mind
that the 9-D connector is NOT a standard RS232;  you will need to wire
up a cable yourself to connect the K2 to the COM port on your computer.

  Sam,

The fact that the KRC2 works does not indicate that the 2 RS-232 signals
in the KIO2 are working - the KRC2 does not use the RS-232 signals
except for loading its own firmware, it decodes the K2 band from the
AUXBUS signal.

Did it ever work before?
Do you have the jumpers in the KRC2 set properly?
Is the K2 menu PORT parameter set to ON?
Are you using a real serial port or a USB to serial adapter?

Do you have the cable that is specified to be built for the KIO2?  If
so, connect it between the computer and the KIO2 and try the test from a
terminal application outlined in the KIO2 manual.  Removing the KRC2 for
test purposes reduces the number of potential failure points.
** Do NOT use a standard serial cable directly on the KIO2**
