Is it worth it to put in a KIO2 just for PSK? Or is a comport interface to
the PTT adequate? I'm trying to avoid multiple disassemblies of the K2 so I'd like to put everthing in at once. tnx jim ab3cv _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It is adequate, but you can get frequency data and control for your
spectrum display, so you see the frequency you're on, click on a signal and have it recenter in the filter passband, and change bands/frequencies from your program. The "rig control" feature is supported by a number of digimode programs. If you use the KIO2, you won't need to use the PTT line with such programs, as they can send the K2's TX and RX commands over the serial port, so you only need the one serial port, not two. 73, Leigh/WA5ZNU On Tue, 22 Jan 2008 7:45 am, jim ab3cv wrote: > Is it worth it to put in a KIO2 just for PSK? Jim,
The KIO2 is not required (nor will it help) for any of the soundcard derived AFSK data modes. If the application supports PTT operation by activating one of the RS-232 signals on a serial port (usually RTS or DTR), you can build a 2 diode, 1 transistor, 1 or 2 resistor interface that activates the transceiver PTT input. Check out some of the methods of interfacing PSK31 that can be found on the internet (Google 'PSK31') and you will see several methods of keying the rig's PTT input. PSK31 and its variants do not use the RS-232 data signals at all. 73, Don W3FPR Jim Miller wrote: > Is it worth it to put in a KIO2 just for PSK? thanks to all for the psk info.
the nbems activity has sparked my interest in psk31. 73 jim ab3cv _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have only ever used one serial port and have used a PTT and CAT control using the same port. With MixW I use the CAT command for TX/RX keying and the DTR line for Morse keying. But because the key jack doubles as PTT on the K2, DTR works for conventional PTT as well for software that doesn't support CAT keying. But to return to the original question, the KIO2 is certainly not essential for PSK use.
