For some reason I've become interested in trying PSK31 with my K2/10.
Receive works well, but haven't tried transmitting yet because my laptop has only USB connectors. Before buying an interface, would appreciate knowing whether others have had success with QRP level PSK31. Which interfaces play well with the K2? 73, Curt KB5JO ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I use the MicroHam USB Interface III, it requires a small modification to the K2, but works very well.
http://www.microham.com/contents/en-us/d158_U3.html PSK31 works very well with 5 watt. Curt,
Most any interface box will work with the K2 if you use the headphone output and mic input - even homebrew. PTT can be derived from a USB to serial adapter and a "one transistor keying" circuit. Take a look at my website www.w3fpr.com for the K2 Fixed Audio Output article and the Switchbox for Digital Modes article. It may be possible to use the laptop soundcard, but external soundcards are easy to use and inexpensive. You do not need the Compression Disable part of the switchbox article if you turn on RTTY mode and set up the filters just like your SSB filters. With RTTY mode, the compression setting is independent of the setting used for SSB -- Compression must be at 1-1 for data modes. You can find an updated circuit for the Fixed Audio Output at the newly mirrored N0SS website http://www2.opparc.org/mirrors/n0ss/www.n0ss.net/wsdindex.html. Boards are no longer available, but the circuit is simple enough to construct on perfboard. 73, Don W3FPR On 11/21/2013 7:49 AM, Curt wrote: > For some reason I've become interested in trying PSK31 with my K2/10. > Receive works well, but haven't tried transmitting yet because my > laptop has only USB connectors. The SignaLink USB units work very easily with the K2 all you need is an USB
port on the computer it has its sound card built in it. As far as QRP and digital modes they made for one another. 73, Fred/N0AZZ K3 Ser # 6730--KX3 # 5210--K2/100 # 6470-KAT100 P3/SVGA--KAT500--W2 Amps Elecraft KPA500 HF/6m--Alpha's 9500 HF--87A HF--Mirage B-5030-G 300+w--(2) B-5016-G's 165w 2m -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Don Wilhelm Sent: Thursday, November 21, 2013 7:23 AM To: Curt; [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] [K2]PSK31 QRP? I originally operated with a home brew 100w linear (tube type) with about 20w peak output ... but the amp took up most of the desk space so I de-commissioned it almost 2 years ago with the intention of getting a modern solid state amp. In the meantime i continued to operate barefoot (QRP). I hardly noticed a difference. I still worked some DX and anyone I called came back to me. Calling CQ almost always brings a response. My antenna arrangement consists of 2 dipoles (20 & 15) at the top of my 50ft tower ..... nothing extraordinary. The USB version of SignaLink does and excellent job as an interface. If I had a less efficient antenna system I might go for a 100w linear. As it is QRP works wonderfully and I have a nice clean operating desk hi hi.
