Hello everybody from Canberra.
This may have been covered before, and perhaps you can direct me to the archive.... BUT ... Has anyone complained about the fragility of the power plug/socket arrangement on the K2?? I *have* to sweep off my bench before starting up the rig. Else it turns itself off and maybe flickers on/OFF until I rest the plug on my bench. Just brushing against mic cords, pens whatever ... is enough to set it off. Have other people found a better mechanical connection for a plug & socket which has to remain connected and carry 2A on transmit. At present, I could not take my setup portable in the passenger seat of my car or in my lap!! Ideas would be welcome... Hi Richard,
In my opinion you have not installed the APP's correctly. I used them on my K2, my K3 and all over the shack. I have used them mobile and on the bench. I have even used them holding the K2 in my hand while I transmitted on SSB to test a portable aerial. I have never had a problem with them ever apart from one I didn't fit correctly. Personally, I solder them to the cable as I have no crimp tool but as I say, I have had no issues with them at all. The tongue of the APP *must* overlap the spring and there should be an audible click as it goes home. 73 Ian -- Ian J Maude, G0VGS SysOp GB7MBC & HB9DRV-9 DX Clusters Member RSGB, GQRP 9838, FISTS 14077 | K3 #455 http://www.amateurradiotraining.org On 18 March 2010 04:32, Irena and Richard jenkins <[hidden email]>wrote: > Hello everybody from Canberra. > > This may have been covered before, and perhaps you can direct me to the > archive.... Richard,
you can get this connector in different versions. The 2,1mm and 2,5mm look very similar, bat of coarse they are not :-) If you by accident use a 2.5 type it will result in exact the problem you describe because the K2 Jack is 2,1mm 73 de Peter, DL2FI > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] [mailto:elecraft- > [hidden email]] On Behalf Of Irena and Richard jenkins > Sent: Thursday, March 18, 2010 5:33 AM > To: [hidden email] > Subject: [Elecraft] K2 Power Connector > > Hello everybody from Canberra. > > This may have been covered before, and perhaps you can direct me to the > archive.... Hello Richard,
What you're describing is not normal. Are you saying the plug pulls out of the socket with very little effort? Or does it fit snugly, but the connection drops out as you move the cord? If the plug fits very loosely or comes out with very little effort, it sounds like you either have the wrong size plug on the end of your power cord, or else the socket in the K2 is broken. If it fits snugly but the power drops out as you move the power cord, you might have a bad connection in either the plug or where the socket is soldered to the K2 circuit board. The plug that came with my K2 fits snugly in the socket and I can move the rig around without it pulling out. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Mar 17, 2010, at 9:32 PM, Irena and Richard jenkins wrote: > Hello everybody from Canberra. > > This may have been covered before, and perhaps you can direct me to > the > archive....
