Hi Everyone,
I've just fitted the KSB2 adaptor to my K2 (#5294), and seem to be experiencing some oddness. When I select OP1 as the filter, the signal seems to be greatley attenutated (no signal strength on the S meter), and you need to have the AF control at near maximum to hear any output. In contrast, selecting FL3 (1.8KHz), produces much more 'normal' sounding SSB. Somethings obviously amiss somewhere - does anyone have any thoughts? Ken,
That is a sign that something is amiss with the filter on the SSB board. Check all the diodes and the toroid transformers. Be certain the tiny RFCs do not have any bare wire that is shorting to the crystal cases (slip a piece of paper between the RFC and the xtal case to check). On the RF Board, there is one other thing to check - C179 which is switched in-circuit by Q25 only when the OP1 filter is selected - it should be 100 (101) pf. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Hi Everyone, > > I've just fitted the KSB2 adaptor to my K2 (#5294), and seem to be > experiencing some oddness. Ken,
The mistake I made on my KSB2 adaptor acted/sounds like what you are getting. Have you tried to transmit? Is there audio/RF out? Check the switching diodes found at either end of the Xtal filter section. Is the right end up? Are they installed in the right direction. I got one backwards and got strange sounding receive audio and no transmit signal. I could see depending which diode is wrong your symptoms would appear. There are 8 diodes to choose from (I think). Also check the usual solder bridges, etc.... There maybe other causes someone else may help if that is the case. I just wanted to post a general thankyou note to all the people who
sent helpful hints to try and resolve the problem I was having with the SSB filter in my K2. It turns out that I'd installed D4 and D5 on the SSB board backwards (doh!). Anyway, lots of useful tips pointed me quickly in that direction - so now the problem is resolved. (:-) Many thanks all!
