For those that have an interest in the current K2 serial numbers,
today I received K2 kit #5600. I did a look see glance over inventory as per the instructions but I dont see any type of 12V DC power cord? Radio shack -- for me -- is a 110 mile round trip drive. So no power cord is a big item. I can always use some zip cord off some other piece of gear but it would have been lots better if it was included in the kit? During FD last weekend, the K2 I used worked exceedingly well on CW. So it appears to be worth the pain of building one. There should be some red & black wire, Frank. There is a coaxial
poer connector that is supplied for one end, and you have to put whatever you require for your power supply on the other end. No red/black???? I think it is number 18 or 16 gauge stranded. Ouch! And I complain about it being 6 miles to the nearest Radio Shack!
Anyway, for a QRP K2 any decent zip cord from the hardware store or just about anything you can scrounge is FB. Cord is supplied with the KPA100 since that requires heavy-duty stuff to handle the 15 amps or so the KPA100+K2 might draw. There are a number of builders who will assemble your kit if doing it yourself is a "pain". We're supposed to be having fun here <G>. Gee, I keep feeling like I have a "new" K2 but SN 5411 is almost 200
behind the lead runner at this point. By the end of the year we will probably pass the 6000 mark. Maybe I should start timing it now so I can get SN 6000? Come to think of it, who ever decided that keeping track of SNs was a good idea? I've seen interest in SNs with other rigs but only to identify new vs. old and whether a rig has the latest mods or not. But then I guess Elecraft is not like other rigs. - Keith KD1E - - K2 5411 - -----Original Message----- For those that have an interest in the current K2 serial numbers, today I received K2 kit #5600. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have often wondered if serial numbers on today's radios run sequential.
Seems like they may skip numbers to make us think they sell more than they actually do. I wonder mostly about the Ken,IC and Yaesu. Hi Keith and all,
My 1999 K2 #402 has never really seemed old to me. Maybe a little before I upgraded it last year, but it kicked ass back then, and did so again Saturday night during field day. As a K2/100 it worked so well compared to the other rigs we were using. Its timeless, and it’s a keeper.
