K2 and MacOS

Robert Allbright
Hi Elecrafters

Out of curiosity I am wondering how many of you are users of MacOS?
(I'm using OSX 10.4.6) on my G5 iMAC

I'm just about to interface my K2 via the Tigertronics SignaLink SL-1
+ Sound Card - Radio Interface (http://www.tigertronics.com) and
using software cocoaModem 2.0 for digital modes to my G5 iMac

Thanks Dick AA5VU (http://www.qsl.net/aa5vu/) for all your help and
the software writer of cocoaModem Chen W7AY (http://homepage.mac.com/
chen)

next job the KPA100

happy days

Hi Robert,

I have a MacMini - OSX 10.4.6 with dual Keyspan USB/serial ports and an
older RIGblaster.

I use MacLoggerDX on one serial port for logging and rig control and
Cocoamodem/CocoaPTT on a separate port for PSK.  MacLoggerDX is a
fine piece of software -- It is versatile and full-featured, and
author Don Agro gives it superb support. MLDX supports the native
K2 command set -- it's plug and play.

SignaLink is said to be a fine solution, but I've not used it.

Alas, I fried my KIO2 this weekend doing something else, so I'm out
of the rig control business until I fix it.

No connection with the above-mentioned vendors x/c as a customer.

73,
Ken

MacOS X rocks! I use my macs whenever I can. (I have an old Sawtooth
and carry my 12" PB G4 1 GHz into the shack to use Cocoamodem)

I bought my wife an iBook two years ago, and she's become completely
inseparable from it. It changed her life.

Yup. Me too: G5.

I only use the PC when I have to write firmware or run hardware
modeling software.

The K2 works well with the Macintosh and MacOS X.

I use MacLoggerDX  (http://www.dogparksoftware.com)
for my logging program. This software works fine with
the KIO2 and a USB serial adapter. I've used it successfully
with my PowerMac G5 and my 17-inch PowerBook G4
while traveling.

If you like contesting, you can check out software I have
written called CabConverter
(http://groups.yahoo.com/group/cab-converter/) which
will take your log produced by MacLoggerDX and
produces a Cabrillo file for all the major contests.

Additionally, the Logbook of the World is supported
using the TQSL stuff. I think I'm using this:
http://home.insightbb.com/~n9yty/TQSL-1.11-TIGER.zip

I've also been uploading my log to eQSL by just
exporting the ADIF from MacLoggerDX.

In short, the K2 plays nicely with the suite of Macintosh
software available and I've had great luck using this stuff
for all the "normal" things you might do.

Get one of those newfangled Intel-based Macs and you can use Boot
Camp to run that "dark side" software on occasion....

Might save some desk space....

There's also Virtual PC for the PPC Macs.  It will even provide you
with a good lesson on patience and evoke memories of using a 16 MHz
386 :^)

  I use a free 68HC908 assembler and a programme
I wrote in C for FreeBSD and gnu/linux to programme
the chips because I hate to do software development
on M$ computers.
