K2 disassemble/ maint. question

K4JQV
Group;

I have a new headphone jack to put into my rig. I am looking at the manual and it seems I'll have to take all the boards out (RF, control, options, etc) to get to the front panel board. Is this right, or is there perhaps an easier way - like just taking the front panel off straight away? I didn't build the K2, alas, or I'd likely know this.

Thanks for advice!

73;
Jacob K4JQV

Re: K2 disassemble/ maint. question

Don Wilhelm-4
Jacob,

Complete disassembly is not necessary - here are the steps:
Remove the top cover (6 screws) and the front bottom cover (6 screws),
and the 4 screws holding the front panel on the exterior.
There are two screws inside holding the Control Panel and Front panel
together.  Peer between those two boards to see where the standoffs are
located and you can quickly locate the screws.
The one on the left can be complicated a bit if the KAF2 or KDSP2 are
installed - that option must be removed first.  If it is the KAF2, just
remove the screw holding it in place, but if the KDSP2 is installed,
remove the top DSPx board first by pulling it to the rear, then you can
get at the mounting screw.

Remove the Control Board first - use a hex wrench as indicated in the
manual as an aid to release the connectors.  After that, just pull the
front panel to the front.

Hi Jacob:

It was a while ago when I did mine, but I recall only having to remove the front panel assembly.  The headphone jack was right there on the left of the main board looking at the front of the rig.
