Hi all,
I just saw a review of the K2 on eHam dated Jan 15, 2007 that gave it a 3 out of 5. A quick search of the elecraft archives didn't find any comments related to this review. A few of the points mentioned in the review make sense to me, but I only have a K1; so far. I would like to hear some K2 owners thoughts regarding this review. Have a great day!! 73, Richard, AI4SH _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Whether they affect your operating or not is up to you. For contest operating with SO2R (using 2 radios simultaneously) there are a few things about the K2 that are somewhat of a pain. Almost all reviews at Eham is true in the eyes of the author.
Different needs can bring the K2 down to 2/5 for one ham and 5/5 for another ham. We do all look for the small things that matter for our own needs. And yes....The NB is very selectable of what it actually will remove so it would be one item I could do without , but another ham find good use for it for the right kind of noise. Myself use the K2/100 as a fixed station with the possibillity to switch topcover to qrp with battery and autotuner. As fixed I have the KAT100 to go along. But...I said I have possibillity to do that. Have I ever done it? NO! Since I have the K1 and a FT-817 I haven't had need for it. Do the K2 serve me in contest with it's userdisplay? Very well so. But to do contest with the K2 it is good practice to know your station. The FastPlay feature and PF1 , PF2 make the rig very easy to adapt for my need. The DSP requires some tweeking to suit my needs and I find good use for it. As all AFDSP it is OK on SSB , but not perfect. On CW I use it all the time. It's like listening CW on a FM-radio. And with the DSP I got plenty audio because I took my time to aligne my radio well before I put it to use. Sure there are items I don't like myself as the clock. The Eham author hit the nail right on there. The VFO RATE not nulling the decimals. I second that. For some a minor flaud , for other it can bother the hell out of em'. But all in all if you want to build your own radio that you can repair yourself and with good quality , you will love the rig. If you are looking for a FT-2000 or a TS-2000 and you want the rig to be on the air the day after purcase I would stick to just those two. The K2 will most surtain not suit your needs. If I was going to rate my K2.... I would give it 4,5/5. 73 to all!
