K2 help!! Fault pulling my hair out

G6YAQ Frank
Hello from UK, I have a problem with my K2 s/no 2390,a long story but the short version is that it was ok when I aquired it 12 months ago but could not get 40 mtrs band, after afew emails from our helpful friends I found that D19 in the sec menu was not switched on ,I did this and all bands were working okon receive. I then decided to put rear bott panel back on along with the pa transistors checking for shorts etc, (taken off previous to check for dry joints) all other modules were re installed ie k60 xv and 160mtr units .On switching K2 back on nothing at all but af noise ,no signals at all on any of the bands ,display and all controls seem to be working correctly,Ithought I may have had a dry joint appear somewhere so rear panel off again to look could see nothing .I checked and resoldered all pcb joints on the main board and still dead as a do do!!(not hi) Thinking would a reset on the K2 help? Can anybody out there help as don't know what to do next will even consider sending to some one who can fix or help local in the UK m/cr,lancs area, and as a last resort to the USA ,or Elecraft if it requires it. Tnx for reading,Frank

If you have the ATU you did remember to re-connect the antenna didn't you? No mis-aligned connectors?

Have you reset the CPU? If so it may require re-claibrating. Check the memory battery, re-do the synth cal. It is probably worth going back to the build manual and tracing the fault through the schematic.

It is a Dodo by the way, not a do do.

I had a similar experience once.  I found the 160 board was touching my auto tuner.  Bent the board ground connector down and instantly cured the issue.

Frank,

The most likely is that you have misplugged either the K160RX or the K60XV.
Did you remove any ore options?  KNB2? KSB2? KAF2? or KDSP2?  If so, put
them back in or use appropriate jumpers before jumping to any conclusions.
A reset should not be necessary - be aware if you do a reset that all
menu items will be reset to the factory defaults and will wipe out any
menu setup items you have already done (like the D19=y requirement when
the K60XV wiring is added).

To determine where the problem might be, I suggest you do some "Cheap
and Dirty Signal Tracing" (see www.n0ss.net for complete info).
Add a DC Blocking capacitor in series with your antenna lead (center
conductor if coax), or just a piece of wire sufficient to pick up some
signals or band noise.  Touch the free end of the capacitor first to the
junction of D6 and D7 - do you hear an increase in noise?  If so, the
receiver is working from that point through to the audio stages - since
it worked before,  it is quite likely still working.
Next move onward toward the receiver front end - th next point is
normally W6, but you have the K60XV installed, so that "W6" point is
really pin 3 or 5 of P1.
Did the band noise or signals increase when that point was touched?  If
so, the bandpass filters are working and the K60XV is plugged correctly.
Next is the W1 jumper, but you have removed that to install the K160RX,
so touch the wire to K160RX J1 pin 1 - OK there?  If so, the next point
is K160RX J1 pin 7 - and if that is OK, you should have signals at the
antenna
