Here in the dead of winter I am thinking about spring antenna projects. One of
the antennas that I am considering is a basic 102 ft G5RV. I would be interested in hearing about any experience that anyone has had with this antenna and a K2 (QRP) with the internal antenna tuner. Is the tuner able to provide a match on all bands from 80 to 10? (I don't work 60 meters). Thanks in advance for any information that you might have to share. 73, Paul - N8XMS ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I second Gerald. The Zs6 is a much more efficient antenna and provides a better balance of performance. I got DXCC on the G5RV but I got DXCC - QRP on the ZS6BKW. I took comparative measurements of SWR using an AA-200 analyzer between the two and you can read it on my blog at http://www.ny4g.blogspot.com.
The ZS6BKW is not a perfect antenna but it is the least imperfect of the simple single wire antennas IMHO. If you want a better multiband, you can try the super loop but it is a multiple wire delta loop. The K2 will tune a G5RV but your ERP will be better on the ZS6 Ariel NY4G Sent from my iPhone On Feb 13, 2013, at 5:18 PM, "Gerald Manthey" <[hidden email]> wrote: > I would prefer the ZS6BKW , it is a improved G5RV. Gary,
Please provide a better definition of what you think a "Zepp" antenna is. There are many variants. The classic Zepp was a half wave wire with a 1/4 wave transmission line that was deployed behind lighter than air aircraft (Zeppelin). That is similar to a J-pole 'on its side'. Zepp antenna is a term that has been modified by hams for years and the result is that it is not a well defined term. 73, Don W3FPR On 2/13/2013 7:25 PM, Gary Gregory wrote: > And better yet on a Zepp > > Gary > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Ariel,
Please explain to me how your SWR measurements translate to ERP. There are a whole bunch of things potentially between your rig and the antenna. Then of course there is antenna pattern. I once had a summer job at Airborne Instruments Labs. Part of the "summer trainee" job was to listen to lectures from some of the engineers. One particular engineer knew hams worshiped SWR. He showed us their latest satellite antenna. It had a 5:1 SWR few relative to 50 ohms. Their measurments showed no measurable loss due to mismatch. Why? The length of the feedline was 6". 73 de Brian/K3KO On 2/14/2013 00:23, Ariel Jacala wrote: > I second Gerald. The Zs6 is a much more efficient antenna and provides a better balance of performance. Sorry Don, I use a 40M Double extended Zepp, when I can find a couple of
tall trees with nothing in between. Not easy in a country where the National Average Height for trees is an amazing 5 metres high...:-) *Getting* the height is easy, *finding* the trees is a little more difficult. 73 Gary On 14 February 2013 12:20, Brian Alsop <[hidden email]> wrote: > Ariel, > > Please explain to me how your SWR measurements translate to ERP. > > There are a whole bunch of things potentially between your rig and the > antenna. I use a 102 ft G5RV on all freqs from 3 MHz to 29 MHz, of course with a tuner.
Besides the amateur freqs I am on MARS and the marine freqs.
