Got my K3/0 and RemoteRigs this morning.
Everything works perfectly except transmit audio. MIC SEL is set to rP.L. Using factory cables, all set up like the book says they should be. Any ideas? Eric:
If you are using the factory cables RRK0CBL, then the microphone (MH2) plugs into the front panel of the K3/0, so I think you need to set the MIC SEL to fP.L (or H) 73, Doug VE3MV ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eric Jorgensen" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2012 2:47 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3/0 > Got my K3/0 and RemoteRigs this morning. > > Everything works perfectly except transmit audio. Also forgot to mention that the MH2 needs bias and JMP1 needs to be in place
in the Control RRC - see 2nd page of the K3 Twin section of the RRC User Manual. 73, Doug VE3MV ----- Original Message ----- From: "D Joyce" <[hidden email]> To: "Eric Jorgensen" <[hidden email]>; <[hidden email]> Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2012 3:42 PM Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3/0 > Eric: > If you are using the factory cables RRK0CBL, then the microphone (MH2) > plugs into the front panel of the K3/0, so I think you need to set the MIC > SEL to fP.L (or H) > > 73, Doug VE3MV > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Eric Jorgensen" <[hidden email]> > To: <[hidden email]> > Sent: Saturday, June 09, 2012 2:47 PM > Subject: [Elecraft] K3/0 > > >> Got my K3/0 and RemoteRigs this morning. >> >> Everything works perfectly except transmit audio. No, the mic cables I got plug in the back of the k3/100 and the k3/0.
I discovered the problem *may* be that I was using the XMIT button on the k3/0. It seemed to work using the ptt on the mic. I always use the XMIT to key the radio. Using XMIT button did key the radio but there was no audio. I have the k3/100 and k3/0 sitting next to each other so I can see everything that happens. But I was called away by xyl to do something out of house with her just then and could not test thoroughly. Also when I key the mic ptt switch the 0 goes into cw for a few seconds but the 100 stays on sb. But this does not seem to cause any real problem. Thanks. Just to clarify:
The mic is plugged into the front of the k3/0. The mic cables from the remote rig boxes are plugged into the mono mic jacks on the back of the k3/100 and k3/0 as specified in the instruction manual. When you bring up the menu on the k3/0, you are bringing up the menu on the k3/100. This is clear from the limited instructions that come with the k3/0 as well as what I see when the two boxes are sitting side by side. I do not know any way to bring up the menu on the k3/0. There are no instructions provided about how to do this of it is even possible. I ass u me the mic plug on the front on the k3/0 is hard wired to the mic connector on the back of the k3/0. Why the XMIT button keys the k3/100 but no audio passes is a mystery to be solved. Doug ~~
Here is what I found: When I first hooked up the K3/0 it was sitting on the desk next to the K3/100, and everything *seemed* to work the first time. But, I had not switched the K3/100 mic to rear panel. I just plugged everything in and powered it up. So, when I press XMIT on the k3/0, the K3/0 keyed the K3/100, and I thought I was talking into the mic hooked up to the K3/0, but in reality the audio was being picked up by the mic hooked to the K3/100, which was just laying on the table, picking up my voice. (I purchase an extra mic so I could leave it with the K3/0. So, when I brought the K3/0 up to my home office, no audio. This was because of two things -- the K3/100 was still set for the mic audio to be front panel, and I was pressing XMIT on the K3/0. So, I conclude that pressing the XMIT switch on the 0 just is not working for SSB. It keys the radio, but it will not allow the audio to pass. When I use the PTT on the mic, with the 0 set to front panel, and the 100 set to rear panel, it works. (I have discovered if I unplug the RS232 from the K3/0 I can bring the 0 menu up. The Mic was correctly set on the 0 to front panel.) I have also discovered that pressing LOCK on the 0 locks the 100, but the 0 still can change the frequency. Perhaps a few bugs, but it is really a nice setup. Thanks for your help and interest. 73 N.
