K3 10 Watt Version - How much actual power out?

Dean44
I presently have a K2 with 15 to 17 watts out. When I need QRO it runs my AL-811H amp up to a few hundred watts so I have never needed the 100 watt finals.

I am thinking that I will be able to do the same thing with the K3 as long as it has about the same output.

For those with the 10 watt model, it would be helpful to know what your actual power out is.

Thanks!

Dean

Into a good [50+j0]  load, max is 12W.

Just buy the PA.  It's a steal.

Dean,

K3 is QRP compared to K2. 12W only!

Dean, running the driver "flat out" or indeed the PA at full power
creates a high level of 3rd order IMD. If you run the K3 around 1/4
power the IMD on SSB transmit reduces by around 10 dB. It's not that the
K3 is particularly bad in this regard, almost all 12 Volt PA
transceivers are like it. My recommendation would be to opt for the 100
Watt PA and run into your linear at 15 ~ 25 Watts or so.

I have the 100 watt version, but when the rig changes over to low
power I can hear a relay click.  If I check the power out with the
Control software of the W2 my output is 11.9 watts.  Some rigs may be
different.  My voltage drops to 11.5 volts from 13.2 with the key down
due to a long power cord from my voltage source to the K3.  I suspect
the output would be higher if the cord were shorter or heavier.

When I am operating on 30m and feel like I need the full 200w there I
set the power on the K3 at around 3 watts.  Driving my Alpha 87A with
that power gets me 200w on 30m.
