For those interested in this topic, I would like to point out that I too
have been frustrated at finding a good linear 100 W amplifier to make folk hear me as well as I hear them with my internal K3 2 m transverter. The ones we have tested tend to be better for FM and CW use. We have an article presently scheduled for May QST that will offer an easy to duplicate, low cost 80-100 W seriously linear amp for the K3, or other transverter that will get it up to the needed power level. If you need more power, the James Klitzing amplifier, Oct 2012 - QST (Pg. 32) Solid State 1 kW Linear Amplifier for 2 Meters is hard to beat. But the one in May can share your 20 A power supply, and makes it all work very well -- Stay tuned! There a few suppliers of kits. The top one is :
http://www.w6pql.com/parts_i_can_provide.htm 1KW linear with 2 W in. $800 for deck. You supply heatsink, case, PS and switching. I saw another website offering cheaper amps for 150, 300 and 500W, kits and ready built. I think italian but not rmitaly. Ignacy, NO9E |

Joel,
Thanks for the QST update. I know I will go back and read that 2 m kw amp article and looking forward to the May QST. Isn't it almost May already! 73, phil, K7PEH On Jan 21, 2013, at 5:18 PM, Joel Hallas <[hidden email]> wrote: > For those interested in this topic, I would like to point out that I too > have been frustrated at finding a good linear 100 W amplifier to make folk > hear me as well as I hear them with my internal K3 2 m transverter. Couple of notes:
The Freescale 1200w 2m amp is really making an impact for eme level operation as the amp can be located near the antenna thus avoiding large low-loss feedlines (more on that, below). I discovered another source of this amplifier from Communications Concepts, Inc. http://www.communication-concepts.com/index.php/ BTW the Freescale amp is available for 432 and 1296 in 500w and 1000w versions. Original articles on this amp were published in Dubus Magazine (link on my website). CCI is the source of my HF amplifiers that I build (AN762 & EB27A). Regarding used hardline: I think the original reply was referring to cable-TV remnant. I have used Heliax running with no issues except maybe slightly higher loss than brand new. My 20-year old 1-5/8 inch runs nearly the same specs (I did cut off significant amounts from either end of a 200-foot piece). I am running two 50-foot sections of 7/8 Heliax to my 6m beam and a 80-foot run of 1/2inch for my 222 yagis. I run 1400w in the 1-5/8 line and will run 800-1100w on 6m. So if used cable is offered free try it out. You may want to trim off a foot on the ends and reinstall connectors to be sure that no moisture contamination has occurred. 73, Ed - KL7UW http://www.kl7uw.com/ ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
