K3: 60 metre coverage in UK

Tom Boucher
I think this subject has been covered before - so apologies for missing the reply:

The UK allocated 60 metre channels extend down to 5.2585 MHz but my K3 will not transmit below 5.330 MHz and VFO B displays 'END'. Is there a fix?

Tom,

Yes, I recall that there is a fix in the form of a 'run-once' firmware
routine, but I don't know what it is.  Send a query to
[hidden email] to obtain a definitive answer instead of a guess.

Tom

This has cropped up before and also been discussed on the UK Elecraft
net. For some bizarre reason not all K3 transceivers shipped to the UK
will transmit across the UK allocation, mine from November 2007, will
transmit from 5.150 to 5.420 MHz. As per your other reply, contact
Elecraft support for an update.

Current K3s shipped to the UK appear to be set to US band limits. In order to transmit on the UK 60 metre channels you need to send a request to Garry -- [hidden email] -- and give him your serial no.

You will receive a quick reply and a small programme. Install it on your PC. This programme removes ALL band limits, whilst enabling all 60 metre channels it does allow you to transmit, subject to the band pass filters, out of band. The programme can also be used to reinstate the band limits. There is still one restriction left, high power can not be used within the CB allocation. Also I understand that the current firmware disables transmitting between 7.5 to 9.0 MHz at high power so that the 8.125 MHz IF trap on the KAT3 and KANT3 is not damaged.

Wayne, can I suggest that you consider a mod to this programme that will allow Region 1 band limits to be set and some way of setting the 60 metre channels country by country.
