I have a question about AM receive bandwidth options. I don't see in the
manual a definition of the allowed DSP BW for each mode. I know that the 6 kHz xtal filter is suggested for AM, but wonder if the DSP bandwidth can go wider, perhaps 10 kHz for BC and solid SWBC reception? If so, can the FM roofing filter be switched in for WB AM use. Alternately, can a coupling capacitor be used across the filter slots to just use DSP for AM BC? Thanks! Regards, Joel Joel R. Joel,
I just updated this topic on the FAQ a couple days ago. Please take a look and let me know if you have any additional questions. As far as doing a mod on the filter slots, I don't think Elecraft at this time would endorse this, but Wayne or Eric would have to comment on it. ------------------------- 73, Greg - AB7R Whidbey Island WA NA-065 K3#0009 On Fri Oct 26 10:27 , "Joel R. Please see my remarks the other day about IF image response. 73, Lyle KK7P _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Lyle - I think it definitely is desirable to let then RX with the wider
FM filter in AM. (With relaxed image reject specs.) I do this on all my other radios. In that case, what is the max DSP b/w? e Lyle Johnson wrote: >> ...Alternately, can a coupling >> capacitor be used across the filter slots to just use DSP for AM BC? > > No, a roofing filter is required. This is already discussed in the FAQ. AM RX is OK with the FM filter.
You can also copy AM through an SSB filter in SSB mode; the K3 is extremely frequency stable and opposite-sideband rejection very high. You can optionally use the RX EQ menu entry to cut the bass frequencies near the carrier, if desired, or use I.F. shift. 73, Wayne N6KR --- http://www.elecraft.com _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. too bad the FCC recently allowed the AM digital to run at nightime,
which makes adjacent channel listening rather difficult. With too wide a receive bandwidth...will not the IBOC digital streams come into the audio demodulation ???? ( obviously I am talking about AM broadcast band... not SW ) bill At 11:24 AM 10/26/2007, wayne burdick wrote: >This is already discussed in the FAQ. AM RX is OK with the FM >filter.
