Here I set knowing that if I push the "TUNE" button I will wake up everyone.
Why? Because it emits a beep and it's loud. Why is loud? Because my MON level is turned up really high. Oh I would love to turn it down but if I try that it will emit a LOUD TONE until I get it turned down. There's only one known solution, activate headphones, adjust the MON level then go back to spkr. Yes....When using headphones I have to crank up the cw sidetone to about 42. If I forget to turn it back down to 15 before removing the headphones, I'm faced with the loud beep/tone syndrome again. Here's how this SHOULD work. When I press MON, I should be able to set the sidetone level without dealing with a constant tone! I could then set the MON for whatever level I want without waking up the entire neighborhood. When I press TUNE (to activate my ext. autotuner) NO BEEP PLEASE I don't mind having to change the sidetone level every time go from spkr to headphone...I realize that's due to impedance and sensitivity variations BUT I don't want loud, wanted, beep or tone when I do this. I'm sure this could be done via firmware. If for some strange reason someone wants these noises then maybe it could be a menu option. Other than that my nearly 2 yr. old K3 has been fine except for the static electricity problem. When I touch the VFO A knob sometimes the screen goes blank, frequency changes and headphone changes to speaker output. Yea it's grounded to all kinds of things plus it's a new FP. Just weird I guess. 73 Steve N4LQ [hidden email] ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
You could assign a switch macro that would set the MON level to zero
every time you want to adjust it: ML000;SWH56; This sets the level to 0 then turns on MON for adjustment. All you have to do is twist the knob. You can also have a switch macro to set the MON level to zero before a TUNE... ML000;SWH16; but then you will manually have to adjust MON back up to your desired level after the TUNE (for which you can "safely" use the previous macro or MON). On a related topic... it would be really great if we could hear live signals as we adjust PITCH instead of hearing the steady sidetone. It is the pitch of the signals that we really want to adjust, not the pitch of the sidetone per se. It would be helpful to be able to hear the signals as their pitch was being adjusted. Different pitches are useful under different conditions of QRN and QRM and "live" pitch adjustement would help in finding the optimal setting. 73, Drew AF2Z On Mon, 02 Nov 2009 10:23:16 -0500, Steve N4LQ wrote: >Here I set knowing that if I push the "TUNE" button I will wake up everyone. >Why? Holy Macro! I need to go to the school of macros. We just need to get rid of

Yes I too would enjoy being able to adjust the side tone while hearing
live on air signals rather than a tone representing the current setting. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The button-beep seems to vary with MON level only in CW mode. In
other modes, it's a constant (relatively quiet) level. At least that's the behavior on my rig with FW 3.52. My question is why it's there at all when I have switch tones turned off. 73 -- Joe KB8AP On Nov 2, 2009, at 3:42 PM, Steve Ellington wrote: > Iain: > Huh? > Crank up your mon and push the tune button.
