K3 BETA Firmware Release -- MCU Revision 2.10

Administrator
K3 beta-test firmware revision 2.10 is now available. Full details
appear below and in the release notes.

The use of beta-test firmware is encouraged, but optional. Please send
any problem reports to [hidden email].

For instructions on how to obtain and load beta firmware, please see:

   http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_software.htm

* * *

MCU 2.10 / DSP 1.81, 6-22-08

* SYNTHESIZER: Tuning and band-change improvements (prevents ERR PL1,
etc.).

* NARROW FILTERS IMPROVED: Gain balanced for "FIR" filters (CW and data
modes).

* NOISE BLANKER can now be used with AGC turned off.

* DENOISER (NR): Gain balance improved in SSB and AM modes.

* EXT ALC voltages adjusted to match resistors called out in EXT ALC
mod document
   (on the K3 mods page).

* TX/RX switching time improvement in DATA-S mode ("SYNC Data", for
AMTOR, etc.).

PC Control Command Changes (for application software developers):

* "PC" (PWR READ) IN K22 MODE now supplies correct value for QRO (KPA3)
on/off.

* “FA/FB” BAND CHANGE now saves mode for old band before switching to
new band.
This prevents problems with per-mode bandwidth, etc., following band
changes.

* “MD” COMMAND FIXED:  On 6 m, CW norm/reverse were being reported
backwards.
On all bands, DATA A and PSK-D were reversed for both get and set
(AFSK A and
FSK-D were correct). NOTES: When an “MD” command is used to switch
between
data normal and reverse, it applies to both DATA A and PSK-D (if
either of these was
in effect), or AFSK A and FSK-D (if either of these was in effect).

NOTE: An extension to the "MD" command is in the works to directly
get/set K3 data modes.
Meanwhile, you can use “SWH43;” to emulate pressing the DATA MD
switch, then “DB”
to retrieve the data mode text string from VFO B, and “UPB;” / “DNB;”
to change the mode.

Hi Tony,

Its not k3fw2r02.zip. That was our last release before the beta.

The correct file is:
ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/K3/firmware/beta/k3fw2r10.zip

As noted on the K3 download page, please read the beta download and
install notes at:
http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_beta_release_instructions.htm

Tnx for the feedback. When I went to ftp://ftp.elecraft.com/k3/firmware/beta
the file  k3fw2r02.zip was listed. I then clicked on PAGE, then click OPEN
FTP SITE IN WINDOWS EXPLORER. Then k3fw2r10.zip was listed. All is okay now.

It sounds like you got it, but for future reference...

When IE is displaying an ftp directory it uses cached data. You have to
refresh that data by clicking the double green-arrows icon beside the
displayed url. That will update the cache and display the current
directory contents. From there just right-click and choose Save Target
As...

Well I have to say this implementation of NR for me is the best yet!

I listen to weak CW almost exclusively and it works really well.

Gone is the big reduction in audio when engaging NR and the CW signal really pops out of the noise.

I like it!

Not sure if it was intended to address this issue but it works for me...

Love this K3

I usually refrain from posting here to keep from adding to the noise level, but can't resist right now.

Great job.

Me too. Wow.

I had reservations about loading a Beta before FD,
but I'm really glad I did.

The NR is now *very* effective at reducing summer static
on CW.

Great job, Elecraft team.

Wow!

I've not seen any noise reduction or noise blanking work this well.  As for the
noise blanker I can set here and watch the S-meter go down while the NB builds
the filter, just as Lyle has described it.  Amazing!

The NR is much improved on CW.  I haven't tried it on SSB yet.

One thing I haven't heard anyone deles mention is the notch filter.  I put the
rig on the Spectrum Lab  software and observed what the notch filter was doing
shortly after I got the rig (#806) and noticed that when the notch filter is on
auto it males several narrow nulls on the waterfall, but when in the manual
setting it makes a null that seems to me to be too wide and you can't get very
close to the desired signal with it or the desired signal will also be nulled,
which is a problem with CW.

Has anyone else noticed this?
