Tune function seems normal but no output on transmit. Using about 6 watts setting on tune--external rf ammeter shows expected output. The output bar graph on the K3 shows the same on transmit as it does on tune, but the external rf ammeter shows zero--using PTT and a straight key--on transmit. Instead of the 1:1 SWR (external tuner) shown on tune, all of the bars on the SWR meter of the K3 are displayed when key down on transmit, which makes me think that the antenna is connected to the K3 on tune but not on transmit.
The results are the same for Ant 1 and Ant 2 on two different bands. BTW the ATU setting on the K3 is BYPASS. I suspect that I hit some key that I shouldn't have, but I do not know what to do. Would appreciate any help given. Thanks. 73 Paul W5DM |

Has this been resolved? If yes, how?
I have the same problem right now. Tuning works, but xmit does not. Neither the button not the paddle. Help! I need to work K5P :-) 73, Andreas, N6NU On Sat, 2008-11-22 at 00:31 -0800, Paul W5DM wrote: > Tune function seems normal but no output on transmit. I am not sure I am following. Please restate the problem.
You can hit the tune button and get power out but if you switch to cw mode and hit the paddle nothing is transmitted? It's fixed ... I am an idiot.
For some reason VOX was turned off. Thanks John, K1ESE, for catching it! That's what happens when you let a 20 months old play with the radio :-) 73, Andreas, N6NU > -----Original Message----- > From: W0MU Mike Fatchett [mailto:[hidden email]] > Sent: Friday, February 13, 2009 10:41 AM > To: 'Andreas Junge'; 'Paul W5DM' > Cc: [hidden email] > Subject: RE: [Elecraft] K3 CW Output on Tune, not on Transmit > > I am not sure I am following. Do you have the K3 set for VOX? See the note in the manual on page 30.
VOX must be turned on in CW mode to operate either QSK or semi-breakin. If you have selected PTT, you must first activate the PTT (footswitch or other) or tap the XMIT button. 73, Don W3FPR W0MU Mike Fatchett wrote: > I am not sure I am following. You don't have to be 20 months old to make that error. :) I don't know why VOX has to be turned on explicitly in CW mode. Since nothing happens without it, it may as well be turned on automatically when you select CW.

Julian,
VOX does not have to be on except for "hit the key" CW (QSK or semi-break-in). PTT (that is the state with VOX off) for CW does work - one taps the XMIT button or depresses the footswitch, or activates PTT by some other means before keying. Recall the problems some had with the K2 where there was no inhibit for keying - many VHF operators had to go to extremes (like installling my PTT for CW circuit) to prevent the K2 keying until the sequencer had finished. 73, Don W3FPR Julian, G4ILO wrote: > > Andreas Junge wrote: > >> That's what happens when you let a 20 months old play with the radio :-) >> >> >> > You don't have to be 20 months old to make that error. :) > > I don't know why VOX has to be turned on explicitly in CW mode.
