Hi Chaps,
Fairly new K3 owner here - just getting set up for digimodes. I'm probably doing something stupid but... I can't seem to make line-out do what it should. I have visited "lin out" in the Config menu and set a value (10) rather than =phones and yet the level on the line-out jack is still dependent on the front panel AF Gain control. Any ideas what I've missed? 73 Denis MW0CBC / GW8OQV ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
I have just returned from a few days away in Italy with my xyl. Being
limited with what we could take (we were flying, usually we drive), I took along my KX-1. It was the first time that I had used it this year- blame the K3 for that! When I used it last (in CT and EA in summer 2008) I posted to the reflector that I had suffered Broadcast interference on 20m after the radio had suffered a rather severe blow caused by my son tripping up over the antenna wire and launching the KX-1 some distance! As a result of this mishap I discovered that I had a broken bnc socket which I have since replaced. I imagined that this might have been at the root of the problem and that all would be well. However, on the aforementioned trip I threw about 10m of wire out of the hotel window (just to listen) and was surprised to find three or four strong broadcast stations around 14.2MHz, so strong in fact that they were badly interfering with QSOs. I cannot help but think that there is something else awry with the KX-1. I have checked the filter alignment and all seems okay according to the manual. Is there anything else I should check for? I don't expect the kind of performance I get from the K2 or K3, but it seems to me that the KX-1 should be performing better than this. Any suggestions appreciated 73 Stephen G4SJP ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

I am having the same problem. Hooked up to Line Out, set LIN OUT = nor 010, but line output still dependent on AF gain setting. Only have main RX, not SUB installed.
Works well with fl Digi, but must set AF gain for it to work. Anyone else have any ideas? Dan, NM3A

Dan,
See the manual page 57. If you have LIN OUT = Phones, the output level will be controlled by the AF Gain Control. Set it to "nor" which will be a fixed level dependent only on the menu parameter value. 73, Don W3FPR On 9/12/2010 7:43 PM, Dan wrote: > I am having the same problem. Thank you Don for your quick reply.
However, I HAVE it set to 'nor' and it still is dependent on AF levels. I have tried to switch it to Phones just to see what difference it makes and I see no difference. I am hooked up to jack on KIO3 which is closest to the side panel with a stereo cable connected to my LINE IN of my computer (Win XP Pro). Still gives widely varying inputs to the computer when AF is rotated. Believe me, I have checked the manual in many places, including the pictures on page 4 and page 57 and page 20 before I emailed. Checking MIC + LIN it says 'not appl'- not sure what this is or why it says this. Is this relevant to the question? Dan,
It doesn't look like anybody else has responded to your last query on this thread, so I will. The reason MIC+LIN says N/A is because you are have selected LINE IN as your MIC SEL input for DATA mode. The mic input is therefore not used, and combining the two inputs is not applicable. But this wouldn't have anything to do with your LIN OUT problem anyway. I would call Elecraft tech support and see if they can think of any other reason for not being able to get the NOR output to work correctly. As you describe it, I can think of no explanation for this other than a defective board. Awaiting Elecraft support answer at this point. Thanks for help so far.

Check your soundcard. This report pops up occasionally and the user has a microphone/VoIP headset plugged into the mic input of the soundcard. Windows will automatically select the mic input of a soundcard if it detects a mic connected (or the built-in mic in many laptops). When this happens, one is getting "acoustic coupling" between the transceiver speaker and the microphone input of the soundcard. Specific configuration information will depend on your soundcard, Windows version and software. 73, ... Joe, W4TV On 9/14/2010 10:04 AM, Dan wrote: > > Awaiting Elecraft support answer at this point. Joe,
Thank you for your insight. Audio coupling to the microphone was INDEED the culprit. Turns out the input line on the notebook was bad and needed repairs. I also needed to turn off the microphone to make sure it does not interfere. Actually was the Laptop's own mic picking it up, not something plugged into it. I recorded the LINE-OUT from the K3 and it is working as spec'd. No issue with the K3 at all, just operator error! Thanks again Joe! Issue resolved. Dan NM3A Check your soundcard.
