K3 - Dead RX after TX

Stewart Baker
Hi All,

I have been experiencing a strange problem on my K3 where the
receiver is sometimes 'dead' after transmit. This seems to be tied
in with the MCU control of the DSP.

To prove that this is either unique or not to my unit, I would be
grateful if fellow K3 owners could try this quick test.

In particular I would like to hear from Beta Testers as to whether
they can replicate this problem with the next (unreleased)
firmware.

POWER
80m LSB 3780
NOR
LO CUT=0.15
SAV ALT1
NOR
TX ON/OFF
ALT1
TX ON/OFF
Receive may be dead at this point

If not continue with
Select USB
ALT1
TX ON/OFF
Receive dead

Switching bands, modes or NOR always restores receiver.

Many thanks in advance.

K3 newbie here. Tried to test using your sequence, but stopped at the
SAV ALT1 command. My (USA Version) K3 does not have such  button(s)
or entries in MAIN or CONFIG,  and the Operators manual does not even
have an entry for that/those commands. Help.

Re: K3 - Dead RX after TX

It would be extremely helpful for those of us who yet received our K3s
that any of these concrete problem-repro cases include:

SN
Firmware version
And hardware versions of the peripherals used.

Does the Config capabilities of the K3's firmware loader provide a way to
"dump" the comphrensive "I am this version of K3" including SN/Firmware #,
and hardware version of the peripheral? Are peripherals like the ATU or RX
come with their own SN?

I will be hoping that these problems (if they are persistent) are solved
by revision to the hardware and firmware.  It would be good for us to
regress those bugs to have access to the characterization of the system
where the potential bug is found.

Does Elecraft use a Gnats like bug tracking system?  Any ideas on
exporting the High Priority, Critical Severity bugs on the list so we can
see what "it's on the list" list is ?

And, for those who post to the email list here, please consider posting
your debug characteristics of your platform (K3 SN, firmware version, and
hardware version of peripherals)

Thanks.

Hi Jerry:
Check the firmware Release Notes for, I think, MCU v1.75. Tells you all
about it there.

The output file from Save Configuration includes the K3's serial number, MCU
version, and the version number of the K3 Utility that created the file.

Options such as the KAT3 and KVX3 do not have individual serial numbers.

Many thanks to all who responded either on or off the reflector.

It would seem that no one else can replicate the problem of RX
loss after TX.

Not sure where to take this now, as although there have been
whispers within the Elecraft inner circle that others have
reported unexplained loss of receive, I can't get a straight
answer.
