All the chatter about the Dual Watch feature of the KX3 begs the question: Is it possible to be implemented on a single receiver K3? Have the same 15khz limitation and maybe a menu option using the REV button to implement.
This feature, if feasible, would be high on my wish list! More job security for Wayne I know, but would others find this useful? 73 Bill, K4CIA ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Bill,
The short answer is, "No, sorry, completely different receiver architecture." 73, Lyle KK7P > All the chatter about the Dual Watch feature of the KX3 begs the question: Is it possible to be implemented on a single receiver K3? The ability to listen to two different frequencies without spending $700
on the second receiver would be one obvious answer to this question. ;) 73, Scott, N9AA On 6/6/12 4:37 PM, Tony Estep wrote: > On Wed, Jun 6, 2012 at 3:22 PM, Bill McDowell<[hidden email]> wrote: > >> ...Is it possible to be implemented on a single receiver K3?... > ======= > What would be gained? Looking at the K3 block diagram in the introduction of Fred Cady's K3 Guide, the key difference in architecture here appears to be that the K3 is a dual conversion, whereas the KX3 is direct conversion. However, if you put a wide-band roofing filter (eg. KFL3B-FM 13kHz) between the first and second mixer, then perhaps it might be possible? Or are there some other considerations at play here?

Early wireless receivers could easily listen to two signals. In fact, they listened to *all* of them, whether they wanted to or not. >> The ability to listen to two different frequencies...
We need a definition of "dual watch". As instituted in most 'I' brand radios, it is useless, IMHO, because it it not possible to tell which signal is on which frequency. Some 'E' brand and 'Y' brand radios allow one to hear a different frequency in each ear (or speaker), which is really the only way to tell who's where. I have no plans for a KX3 and have not read the manual, so I don't know how "dual watch" works in that radio. "...As instituted in most 'I' brand radios, it is useless, IMHO, because it

(Full CCW = Main only, Full CW = SUB only) 73, Ted W4NZ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]]On Behalf Of Ralph Parker Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2012 2:24 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Dual Watch >> The ability to listen to two different frequencies...
