I have just fitted the FM filter to finish off my complement (now 13, 6,
2.7, 0.5 and 0.25). I used the K3 utility to set the bandwidth (13kHz) and I have all the square boxes ticked (checked) so that, in my understanding I should be able to go up to the full bandwidth of the filter in all my other modes should I wish. However, whether I use the width control or the xfil button, the FM filter (in FL1 of course) cannot be brought into play, the width simply stops at the width it did prior to fitting the FM filter. It's no big deal, I bought the FM filter to play on the top end of 10m from time-to-time, not to use enormous receive bandwidths in other modes, however I was of the belief that the full width should be usable in every mode so long as it is enabled on a per mode basis. I am wondering if there is something I have overlooked, and 'yes', I've read the manual! I am on the latest beta firmware. 73 Stephen G4SJP K3#980. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
The K3 DSP maxes out at 4 KHz on SSB and 2.8 KHz on CW. With those limitations, the widest roofing filters that will be selected are 2.8 KHz on CW and 6 KHz on SSB. The FM filter can be selected in AM (BW > 3 KHz audio). 73, ... I have just realised my mistake. I can find no reference to it in the
manual but in searching the archives (again) I found a posting which mentioned the 4.2kHz (AFAIR) bandwidth limit imposed by the DSP. So, it would seem that things are working as they should- I was confused by the filter setup which apparently allows the setting of bandwidths higher than this on all modes. Have I got this right? 73 Stephen G4SJP On 16/10/2009 18:10, "Stephen Prior" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > I have just fitted the FM filter to finish off my complement (now 13, 6, > 2.7, 0.5 and 0.25). Thanks Joe,
Your reply arrived as I was typing my reply to my own original posting, after having found the information in the archive! Many thanks, it's clear in my mind now. 73 Stephen On 16/10/2009 22:16, "Joe Subich, W4TV" <[hidden email]> wrote: > > > The K3 DSP maxes out at 4 KHz on SSB and 2.8 KHz on CW. > With those limitations, the widest roofing filters that > will be selected are 2.8 KHz on CW and 6 KHz on SSB. > > The FM filter can be selected in AM (BW > 3 KHz audio). > > 73, > > ...
