Warning! K3 filter use item follows. Currently, I only have the standard 2.7 KHz filter in the FL3 slot on the RF board. I chose this location due to potential future additions of the 2.1 and 1.8 KHz filters, in slots FL2 and FL1 respectively. Here is what I observe: With FL3 manually selected via the XFIL button; when I try to rotate the Width control below a value of 2.7 KHz, the rig automatically switches to the FL1 position, which is empty. The receiver goes dead. When I quickly reverse the Width adjustment, FL3 is not switched back. I have to manually select FL3 again with the XFIL button. Once back in FL3, I can adjust the Width control to higher values above 2.7 KHz with no problem and the passband gets wider. Is this normal? I thought the DSP circuit would continue to narrow the passband even though the roofing filter is broader. But, why does it switch to an empty filter slot? Did I do something wrong during the Configuration setup? Is this a firmware issue? I have not downloaded the latest updates yet. If I had narrower filters in the FL1 and FL2 slots, then I would expect the circuit to auto-switch to those as I narrowed the passband via the Width control. And, they should switch back in reverse order as I widen the passband. Just set FL1 to "OFF" in the config menu Henry. That will stop the strange behaviour. BTW: FL1 should be the highest bandwidth and FL5 the most narrow IIRC. 73, Ad (pe1ftv) -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of [hidden email] Sent: Tuesday, December 11, 2007 12:07 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Filter Switching Problem? You K3 guys are great! Thanks for the quick responses. I had not set all of the FL1 positions to OFF during the filter setup activity. It pays to read carefully, and then re-read, some of those instructions. The Width function now operates as I was expecting. 73, Henry - K4TMC K3 #98 -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] To: [hidden email] Sent: Mon, 10 Dec 2007 6:06 pm Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Filter Switching Problem? Other way around, but it actually doesn't matter. Any filter can be in any slot and the DSP will select the right one as you crank the bandwidth down. The reason for keeping them in some order is so that when you rotate through them with XFIL they'll make sense (i.e. they get narrower and narrower each time you press, then when you're at your narrowest the next press takes you to your widest). I suggest you submit this directly to [hidden email]. It
sounds like a bug. Or perhaps an omission from the Owner's Manual. 73, matt - WA6EGJ K3 # 24 >Warning!
