Yesterday, I downloaded the most recently-relased firmware updates for my K3. After the download, the rig went dead in the water. After three hours of work with Dale at Elecraft, we determined that the newest firmware available on the website has major compatibility issues with some, if not all recent K3's. After re-installing the 3.97/1.09/2.58 packages, all was well again. Dale tells me he has had three cases of this incompatibility recently. This is just a warning to think twice before downloading the latest and greatest, until the good folks on the West Coast get all the bugs out!! Sorry for your problems.

For reference,my K3 serial 2192 took the FW 4.03 quite well without any incompatibility issue at all and I am working every night on 40M with it without any single problem.

We recently had some K3 firmware download issues. We found that these
have nothing to do with new K3 firmware, so you can safely load new revisions at any time. What happened in most cases was that the P3 interfered with the K3 firmware load. This will be corrected. For now, please turn your P3 completely off when loading new K3 firmware. (If you have the P3 strapped to turn on with the K3, just temporarily unplug its power.) Sorry for the temporary inconvenience. Other download issues had to do with specific combinations of USB-to- RS232 adapters, device drivers, and in some cases the Mac version of K3 Utility. We're working on that. Please contact customer support if you're having any sort of firmware download problem. 73, Wayne N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
