Gang,
I will be doing my very first K3 firmware update via the K3 USB Utility. (I still need to download the latest version of the utility). Is there anything I need to watch for or any stumbling blocks that are not obvious? Any pointers or guidance is appreciated. If it is so trivially simple that I should not even be asking this question then kindness, some grace, and mercy is requested. Thanks. 73, phil, K7PEH K3 Serial #3799 ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
It is a trivially simple and painless process as long as the connection
between the K3 and your computer is working fine. Just leave things alone during the upgrade and don't disconnect or power anything down. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Phil Hystad Sent: Thursday, April 01, 2010 11:34 AM To: Elecraft Reflector Subject: [Elecraft] [K3] Firmware Update via K3 USB Utility Gang, I will be doing my very first K3 firmware update via the K3 USB Utility. Phil,
Download the latest K3 Utility and install it. Plug the computer to K3 serial connection in if you do not already have it connected. Turn on your K3 and then open K3 Utility. It will now even create the "Local Folder for the firmware files" if you choose not to specify one. Check the box that says "copy new files from Elecraft into Local Folder" then click the "Check Versions Now" button. When the download is complete, click the "Send all firmware to the K3". The load should proceed unattended and load all the firmware to the K3 with no further assistance from you (do not interrupt the process - if you do you may have to do the "Force the K3 into firmware download mode" (see the K3 Utility help file under Troubleshooting if something goes wrong). When it is finished, the K3 should be back to normal. There is nothing to it - just do it, it will only take about 10 to 12 minutes for the entire process not counting the K3 Utility install time. I have done hundreds of firmware downloads on my K3 as a member of the firmware field test team, and have only had to do the forced download thing once - I foolishly clicked something during the download and it stopped. 73, Don W3FPR Phil Hystad wrote: > Gang, > > I will be doing my very first K3 firmware update via the K3 USB Utility.
