I'm wondering what those who have installed the 2nd RX in their K3 think of the procedure? I took a quick look at the manual and it seems like you have to take half the radio apart for this. I'm not sure I want to do this to a rig that is currently working FB. I'm not crazy about pulling the front panel apart for one. It looks like the 2nd RX installation in the Flex 5000A was a piece of cake compared to the K3.
Any comments on how the install went would be appreciated. Did anyone installing the 2nd RX into an operating K3 end up with the radio not working post-install? I should be getting my Katiegram for the KRX3 soon and need to decide if I'm going to cancel or not. It was ready for me to pick up just as I was leaving town. I had a 6am flight to Aruba for WPX CW that was cancelled and I was rebooked on an evening red-eye. That gave me the opportunity to run down to Aptos, grab the KRX3 kit and go home to install it. Having never seen the KRX3 instructions before, I was still able to complete the installation in 2-1/2 hours. We used this K3 along with two others in WPX CW with no problems. Admittedly, I had already built two K3s and done a number of hardware mods as we went through field test and early production runs. However, the KRX3 installation should not go astray if you carefully follow the instructions. OTOH, if you know from past experience that you are unskilled at electronics assembly, then you might want to consider having Elecraft install it for you. 73, Ed - W0YK _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Gosh, I wouldn't cancel. Maybe you should have Elecraft install it if your
are squeamish about it. I have a factory built K3 and was given the option of having them hold it until the 2nd rx was available. I opted to take delivery of the rig (on May 9) and install the 2nd rx myself when it was available. I did build a K2/100 and so I ought to be able to handle this (I hope). On the other hand, I also ordered the DVR and so I may wait to install the 2nd receiver until after I get the DVR so I don't have to do surgery on the K3 twice. After all, there is only so much ether available to me . . . I do think the K3 deserves to be spared as much pain as possible and should be put to sleep while the operation is undertaken . . .
