K3 KXV3A without Xverters, sub receiver or P3

Jack
If I do not have a sub receiver, Xverter or a P3 is there any reason to
install a KXV3A?

The only thing I could come up with was the possiblty to use seperate
transmit and receive antennas under certain conditions.

For example, a vertical for transmit (due take off angle) and horizontal
dipole for receive (less noisy and provides directivity).

I picked this example because my small lot does not allow room for beverage
antennas which would be another case for using seperate transmit and receive
antennas.

I don't know of any interactions between the sub receiver and KXV3A.

The KXV3A provides an Rx Antenna connector, transverter connection, IF tap
for a panadaptor (such as the Elecraft P3, Telepost LP-PAN, or an RFSpaces
SDR-IQ), and Rx Ant In/Out for a preamp such as the Elecraft PR6, or for
another receiver to share the same Rx antenna for A/B comparisions, etc.

You can also use the KAT3 to provide two antenna connectors for diversity
(with a sub receiver), with the main Rx on ANT1 and the sub Rx on ANT2 if
you've decided not to invest in a KXV3A.

Hi, N6XVT here,
Well also if you want general SWL lisoning. It has to do with pin
diods in the ant 1/2, for muting during transmistion. In lower
fequancies, the pin diods attenuant signal. There one would want the
rx ant., KXV3A.

That's about it Jack...but one other possibility is to use the RX OUT and RX IN ports for an external preamp (such as the PR6).  Selecting RX ANT would route the signal from the K3, to the preamp and then back into the K3.  You would never risk transmitting RF into the preamp that way.

Also, the RX IN connector is very handy as a way to inject a test signal
without worrying about blowing up your signal generator if you transmit
by accident.

This is my set up. I have a vertical on antenna 2 and inverted V on antenna
1. I can tell immediately which polarization is working by ear. Then with
one push of the ANT switch you can switch to the best polarization if
needed. To hear the difference requires the AGC to be set up to not have a
flat response.
