The knobs in the bad batch will crack/split with just a slight tightening of their set screws. That's what I encountered. I've installed many equipment knobs over the years and was careful to not over tighten the sets screws per Elecraft's instructions. Never-the-less the old ones cracked. Elecraft replaced them and so far all is well. END quote: Amazing, does anyone know the serial number range that these brittle knobs were shipped? Are we talking about the four identical knobs but not the VFO's? So far I have had no need to remove or adjust these. No, we're talking about the AF/RF gain knobs. The "four identical" ones don't have set-screws. ~Iain / N6ML ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The only knobs I've had trouble with are the smaller AF and RF/SQL
concentric knobs. I've had to replace twice and hope the current ones hold up. And, I might say, I've been very careful to not over tighten. I'll bet this problem is (or has been) overcome in Aptos!
